My girlfriend (girl who is a friend) came to visit me Saturday and wanted lunch but wanted breakfast food. We looked up a few places near me and found John's of Willow Glen and saw it had good reviews and wasn't too expensive, so we decided to go there.
Let me first say it was busy but not THAT busy. There were still open seats inside and outside despite there being a birthday party going on.
With this said, we walked in and waited near the booth that said "Please wait to be seated" we waited a good 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge us before a woman who looked like she was a patron came up and sat us. Let me be clear-there was no line.
We sat outside right next to the bar area because we didn't want to be inside by the party. No exaggeration-we got our waters after about another 10 minutes and a waiter/waitress NEVER came to check on if we were ready to order or if he had questions. And there was no way to tell who worked there and who was a patron! My friend suggested we move to the bar to get service, which we did and the bar tender was nice enough and took our order. However, again, 15-20 minutes to get some French toast, two tiny pieces of bacon, and maybe one fried egg (I make eggs all the time, that was NOT two eggs) NEVER CHECKED ON AFTER THAT. And the food honestly was not worth the amount of time it took to get it. It took me putting a mask on and pushing my plate to the edge of the bar to get someone to ask if we were ready for the check. Again, if we were checked on once, maybe asked if we wanted more water, another drink, this wouldn't be too bad. Horrible service, especially when it wasn't packed, and subpar food. 0 out of 10, would...
Read moreSo disappointed!!!!! Johnâs used to be such an excellent restaurant. It used to serve hearty tasty and authentic Greek food. Unfortunately, the food now is absolutely AWFUL! Do NOT BELIEVE it when they say they serve Greek Food. Trust me, what they served is NOT Greek food . Their Gyro plate was awful. For $18.00 they served what looked like a shaved shoe sole, burned and tasteless. What they served didnât even get close to being a gyro. On top of it they served the worst imitation of what Greeks call ΀ζαÏζίÎșÎč but which was more like sour cream mixed with unknown spicesâŠ.and for $18.00 you didnât even get a side of fries. Johnâs food is beyond disgusting, itâs over priced and the environment is nothing like it used to be.
What made it worse, however, was that no one cared that their food was so disappointing. When I was approached about my meal I shared my utter disappointment with the server who told me they were sorry. Most restaurants send a manager to ask what went wrong and what they could do to make things better. Here, no one came. No one cared.
And then, after it was over, the bill had an extra âsurchargeâ. I guess they expected i should pay even more for the privilege of horrible food and lousy service. Never again.
Save yourself the disappointment. Go somewhere else to eat. No matter where you go it will be better than what youâll get at Johnâs. So so sad to see what was once such a great restaurant...
Read moreWe came for lunch, and waited patiently at the hostess stand over around 10 mins with no one offering to seat us or tell us to seat ourselves. There was a bartender tending to the bar and (seemingly) purposefully did not help either. We saw only one bus person on the floor the entire time (no servers or hostesses) and he avoided looking at us and kept his back to us the entire time. Finally my spouse went up to him and waiting patiently until he finished helping an already seated customer to ask him to seat us, but he quickly turned his back and started to walk away. Finally my spouse said âSir can we be seatedâ, and the guy snorted âyeahâ and kept on going. Were we supposed to seat ourselves? There was no sign indicating we do so, and in the past they have always seated you and brought menus. The guy did not bring us menus or give any indication that he was interesting in serving us, so we walked out and went somewhere else, where they greeted is at the door, seated us promptly and happily took our order. We live in Willow Glen and have been coming Johnâs for over 25 years. Itâs been primarily the same staff for years, yet most of them treat us like itâs the first time they ever saw us in their lives. The food is good, but not worth the indifferent service we usually receive. We probably wonât be back anytime soon. Itâs a shame they donât seem to...
