Pupusería La Chalateca — Restaurant in San Jose

I have been coming here since I was about nine years old. My first visits where at the now closed closed location near the San Jose State University campus. Don't be deceived by their outdated decor or atmosphere vibes. In the various times, I've ordered food the wait time has been no longer than 30 minutes. Never have I been disappointed with any dish that I have tried over the years. The staff has always been nice and super attentive towards its customers. I strongly encourage to try my following favorites; pupusas with their curtido, tacos, burritos, enchiladas suizas, carne asada, sincronizadas, pambazos, tortas cubanas, parillada,camarones endiablados, chiles torreados (great appetizer for any meal), micheladas and...

Came in and they only have cash only available, (not currently working) I had to go take out money from the business next door, come back she tells me how can I help you? I start giving my order she stops me and walks away to give people that came in and sat down a menu first, comes back starts again with the order after I pay she, tells me 30-35 minutes 🙄. For a to go lunch order. It’s not even busy. Only one customer came in before me. People managing this place don’t know the value of their customers time, nor care about the experience I do love the quote at the bottom of the receipt, I’ll definitely “pass da word”...

So freaking good we devoured it before photos. That kind of tasty. Pupusas were generously stuffed and truly delicious. Pumpkin pork beans cheese. The cardita cabbage slaw was tangy and the red dipping sauce so good. Not spicy. The Quesdillas Guanaquitas with chicken were outrageously juicy, stuffed full. Inhaled. Fried caramels delicious plantains. The empanada de plantain was amazing with custard inside. The Salvadorian flan was infused with goodness and flavor. There's a lot of pride put on every plate.
