My Mom and I went shopping for books at second hand bookshops for my nephew's classroom (his first year of teaching in San Antonio, TX) when all of a sudden we realized we were famished! We shook the rain water from our booties and headed to my Mom's Country Inn (I kid you not, she calls it "My Country Inn") on Saratoga Avenue for a late lunch. Being serious minded women who understand the importance of eating a balanced diet, my Mom ordered a flat bread pizza and a giant chocolate milkshake while I opted for the Joe's Special and rye bread toast. We covered all the food groups. Yep. We are that good.
Country Inn did not disappoint...
Our waitress was a nice, tall woman with a great sense of humor and excellent posture. She was the best. waitress. ever. Okay, so every waitress at Country Inn is the best waitress ever. Where do they find these lovely, capable gals?
Mini-lecture time: I can say gals because I am female - men? Don't ever use that word if you like to think of yourself as enlightened, modern, equal rights kind of fellows. Trust me, it will cause women to view you as Neanderthals or some other more primitive bipedal primate. The lecture is over.
Our food was delivered hot to the table, with all the bases covered (condiments for eggs and hash browns, preserves and butter for toast, anything else we need just give a shout out to our waitress). The Joe's Special was quite lovely and tasted wonderful. The rye bread was the Country Inn's proprietary marbled dark and light rye bread (I made that up, but it sounded heck-a good, right?). The food was plentiful (can you say doggie bags?), the dining room and foyer were spiffy, and the ladies bathroom was so super clean that you just know they value women!
I would advise all of you that should you be engaged in some task requiring brains and a little bit of muscle, and should you all of a sudden, find yourself famished and desperate for sustenance - go to my Mom's Country Inn and order something delicious like the Ruben Sandwich, or the Joe's Special, or the giant chocolate milkshake and some french fries.
You won't regret it. And life is short so go ahead, order a piece of cake. Savor every bite. Make yummy noises because life is better with...
Read moreHello Danial, I'll start this by stating that my wife, grandson and I have been loyal Country Inn customers for many years. The stores are always clean, the food is always great and your cooks are the best. Jaime and "little Juan" in particular can always be counted on to get our orders right. I worked with these guys in my former life as a restaurant manager. They were great cooks even then. The rest of your staff is always friendly and accommodating and always treat my wife and special needs grandson like "family". However. "Razi" needs to retire. He seems to have forgotten that we pay his paycheck. Tonight was another reason we will refuse to have him as our waiter. My grandson ordered the Crab Melt. Razi said to the effect of " We don't have that tonight, where'd you get that menu? What do you want then?" My wife ordered the grilled salmon dinner. The fish was tough and overcooked. When she asked for the fish to be re-done, Razi made her feel like it was her fault and that the cook messed up and she was wasting a $17 meal. He told her the management was going to get mad because of it. When she tried to explain the problem he just took the plate and walked off. He told her that she was making him forget what he was doing, even though he seemed to be more interested in watching the TV than taking care of customers. This kind of rude behavior is unbecoming to your store. We've heard others make comments about his service as well. Please do your restaurant a favor and retire this person. We will continue to enjoy dining at your Saratoga location as we have for years, but if he is the only choice for a server, we'll go...
