The old short Vietnamese man at the counter is a reckless bigot. I ordered takeout online and came to pick up my food, and he immediately looked at me with suspicion and refused to believe that I was the one who ordered and paid for my food. I told him the name for my order, and instead of just giving me the food, he demanded to see my receipt in my smartphone. I showed him the receipt, and he told me he couldn't see the name. I pointed to the name. He scowled and abruptly turned around without saying anything, and he went to look onto a computer. He then told me to show him the part of the receipt where it showed what I ordered. I showed it to him. Finally, he picked up the bag of food which was sitting there the whole time, and he dropped it on the counter in front of me with a scowl on his face. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY regret including a tip when I ordered my food. Now I've learned my lesson: Never tip ahead of time, in case you encounter a bigot employee. He also wasn't wearing a face mask, endangering the lives and health of his customers and co-workers. What a selfish, reckless person! And in addition to all of this, the food was totally MEDIOCRE. I've been to several other Vietnamese restaurants in San Jose with high quality food (and wonderful service). The food that I received from LeQuy was filled with stale vegetables, and the meat did not taste fresh either. It was a very bland meal. (If you are reading this post and you've also been discriminated against by that man or anyone else in that restaurant, please send...
Read moreUPDATED REVIEW 2024/09 they moved to a new location where is right next to Grocery Outlet, just a few steps away from the original place. There’s a 20% discount for dining in to the end of September, kind of celebration of the opening. Unfortunately I have to downgrade on this second visit (though it’s my first time at the new location) because the food quality is just average. I had beef stew with rice today thanks to the accommodating staff who let me swap the egg noodles for rice. The soup tastes a bit too sweet, with nothing much else going on. You can't really taste the freshness of the ingredients. The beef is cut way too square, like it came straight from a factory. The pork has that gamey flavor and wasn’t properly sliced before serving on the plate. The rice isn't wet or sticky and tastes great, but some were clumped together, which is a bit disappointing.
ORIGINAL REVIEW The restaurant has excellent natural light, and the vintage booth seating by the wall is very cozy and welcoming. We enjoy eating BBQ pork slices and BBQ chicken rice plates there. Delicious food, super comforting with everything in a decent portion size. Solid for the price. Service is speedy. We’ll certainly have to come back when we’re in...
Read moreGot take out from here during covid, tried to pick things that might travel well. We got the following:
Shrimp and crab spring roll (app) - I give this 2/5 stars and wouldn't get again. The outside is very crispy and fried well but it doesn't taste anything like crab or shrimp. The inside looks like a regular egg roll, and has vermicelli. Also for the price you would hope it's a little more special.
Combination special dry noodle - this is a dry noodle with sauce and you have the option of getting a broth with it. You also get options on what type of carb you want. We did the clear noodles, it was the cellophane kind, spot on for chewiness/al dente. The original sauce it comes with is like a light soy with ground meat and chopped shiitake. The broth on the side is almost like a tom yum (sweet and sour) and comes with the usual toppings of basil, jalapenos, and bean sprouts. You get 4 calamari rings, 1 shrimp, 2 crab claws, and slices of pork. The pork is quite tasty. Slightly pricey but overall 5/5 would get again.
BBQ pork vermicelli - usual standard fare, 5/5. Lettuce was fresh, flavor was good, and quantity was decent....
