I've been taking my Family here for quite a few years now and have always enjoyed the food but recently i went there and ordered 3 asada tacos and a can of coke a $11 purchase. I give the old mean looking lady a hundred and she gets my change and counts it back in spanish (i don't speak spanish) so i thank her and move to wait for my food all the while counting my money. Well, after i count my money, i see she shorted me $20 so after the only person besides me ordered his food i go back to the line to tell her she shorted me but she just denies it and rambles something off in spanish so i ask the young man who had just ordered if he spoke spanish and he said yea so he interprets for me and tells me that she was saying that i ordered all kinds of other food that i didn't ( mind you she never gave me a receipt or even asked if i wanted one) what she did give me was a number.. well when she shows the young man the order of food i didn't order, the number didn't match the number i had and she snatches the number from my hand and says i have the wrong number.. The young guy gets his food and as he's leaving he says yea bro they're trying to "get you" and apologized to me. I was gonna call the cops so the lady says here, opens the cash register and gives me back $20 (which is the change i should have got back with my food) so i ask for my food and she says no i gave you back $20.. i get mad and say here (and hand her the money) and say just give me back my hundred! But she wouldn't. I have too much respect for elder women and women in general but she straight up stoled my money and i never got food. I gave 3 stars because of this incident otherwise i would have gave 5. I don't ever wanna see that thief again so you lost a long time customer who ate there at least twice a week for my...
Read moreI ventured to this southern outpost of the Taqueria El Farolito chain to try a burrito and I was very satisfied with my no grills experience.
As I pulled into the parking lot of the small strip mall in which this taqueria stands, my immediate thought was "California should be Mexico", as for all intents and purposes I was existing a demonstratively Latino space, Chicano, by majority, but with Catrachos and Pinoleros too, and a southeast Asian nail salon thrown in for fun.
The restaurant is without frills, its menu is quite diverse though and offered en inglés y español. It was staffed by a dutifully working skeleton crew; a woman managed the orders and a tio with a big bigote was cooking. Most of the clientele were cholos except for an older Asian couple. I doubt they recognized as a fellow Latino given my gringo accent or maybe they did, but I ordered a burrito de pollo and waited by the door. The orders were being churned out quickly but I heard the cook say he was going to start the burrito "para el pobristo allá" within a relatively short time after my order was placed.
The burrito itself, which was a burrito regular was actually huge and incredibly filling. The ingredients were all well done, well proportioned and distributed. I quite enjoyed it and inhaled it within minutes.
If I'm ever in the Bay area again, I would gladly return to this or one of the other branches of this humble but highly effective...

I didn't know we had an El Farolito in San Jose! Pros: Glad i don't need to head North to eat at this Local Legend...
Cons: There is no tables side service... There is hardly any service at all, actually. This location ehos a hole in the wall vibe: The tables are dirty, you have to clean them yourselves on top of not enough seating. The venue is not very inviting or all that clean in general. The parking lot is small and shares spaces with surrounding businesses. These ratings are way too generous on Google
#LocalLegend: ~ Super Shrimp & Meat Burrito - 3.5/5 While the Burrito was very good, I thought they forgot to put meat in it... so essentially it was just a Shrimp Burrito. I'm certain I didn't get any "meat" in it. At least it was tasty.
~ Super Quesadilla - 4/5 This was just a good solid Quesadilla. No complaints.
I'll probably stop by and get food to go from now on if I'm ever carving...
