Today, my mom got her very first pay from her very first job and she wanted to take me out for dinner. A friend of ours brought us to this place about 2 months ago and my mom really liked this place due to the variety of food they offer however today’s experience was indeed very upsetting. We arrived at 7:43pm, it is stamped on the paper the moment you are being recieved and we know that they close at 9pm. The moment we entered the place we were already told that , “oh we close at 9pm”. I didn’t ask but “I said okay thank you very nicely ” It felt like lowkey saying “we close at 9pm so better hurry up”. We got into our table and then a lady with short hair asked us what we wanted for drinks and then left. About 7:52 we got up to start grabbing our food from the buffet. At about 8:10pm we finished our first plate, the same lady came by and grabbed our empty plates , we said thank you nicely then she came back about after 3 minutes and gave us our check then again said “ here’s your check because we close at 9pm. By then I was already quite annoyed. We grabbed our 2nd plate and kept eating, at about 7:24pm the lady came back asking about the check book as we had left it on the table without my moms card yet as we were still eating. My mom gave her her card because the lady asked. She went into the cashier station and ran my moms card then came back at our table to leave the check book to have it signed. If I have to be honest it is very discouraging to leave any tip at this point so we just signed the check. Then the lady came back again, looked at the check book on our table and had told us “oh make sure to leave a tip here” at that point I started flipping out quietly. I was mind blown how rude that lady was. A hostess came by to our table and to grab our check book , I told her the reason why I wouldn’t want my mom to leave any tip and that I was sorry. I think I am just upset that my mom will forever remember that she bought me dinner at this place on her very first paycheck on her very first job with an experience like that. We left at 8:42 before we get shooed again. We came here not to experience fine dining, we just wanted to eat a lot and well. Forever ruined. So to that short haired lady, I am very sorry if you were having a bad day, I hope you didn’t have to to...
Read moreI like Tomis personally, but the food quality has gone down while the price only continues to go up each year. I'm not sure if my expectations have just gotten higher after years of coming here.
I try to take one piece of what ever I want to try so I can figure out what is worth it to indulge on. The desserts are almost completely awful except the ice cream, but somehow they pick out some really good quality fruit. When getting sushi, it's good to skip over the special rolls and fried rolls because they're pretty bland. They have pretty good sashimi, salad, and the oysters have not gotten me sick here yet. The dim sum is a hit or miss, but ordering the noodle soups at the window next to it hasn't been disappointing. The crab legs are never overcooked and remain very juicy, so they get trafficked hard during dinner, don't miss them if you're paying 30$, get your money's worth. I'm not a fan of the tempura or calamari that they have because it usually sits under a heat lamp and doesn't have a fresh crunchy batter. The barbeque meats section where they keep the char siu is well maintained and the staff is pretty friendly when you have questions about what you're grabbing or when you need something cut.
I like the kitchen staff a lot when it comes to service and making things fresh. They all keep busy and food almost never runs out.
When it comes to tables and seating, the waiting staff tries really hard to keep tables clean. If it's really busy, refills don't come as quickly. I don't expect exceptional service because there are possibly over 100 guests during lunch, but the waiters and waitresses still try. I remember ordering tea and not getting it till 10 minutes into my meal. I'm not mad at them though because it's a really busy environment. Just be sure to order any drinks that you may want as soon as...
Read moreI originally gave this place five stars, but dropped it down two stars because of sanitary and management issues.
The food is still amazing for a buffet. I highly rate it for that. Their staff, however, could use some re-education.
I usually go to the restroom to wash my hands before I eat. While in the restroom, I noticed one of their staff members use the urinal but didn't wash his hands before leaving the restroom. I exited right behind him to see if maybe he was going to use a sink in his work area, but he did not. He went straight back to work. Very unsanitary!
I approached one of their managers at the front desk. I very politely told her that I was not complaining, but that she should be aware that her employee was not washing his hands because that's not a good look for their restaurant, especially since someone else might have an issue with it considering this is the food service industry. I reiterated that I was not complaining and that I just wanted to let her know for their benefit to avoid a bad look or even a health violation if the wrong person were to notice. She said she understood and I thought we left it at that.
If it had ended there, they would've only lost one star, but it didn't. The same manager found me shortly after and told me she spoke to her employee and that he said I was making it all up and that he claimed that he did wash his hands. I told her, it was only himself and I in the restroom and that there is no doubt in what I saw. I reiterated again that I was not complaining, I'm not trying to call anyone out, and that I was letting her know about the actions of her employee for her benefit. She then said, I was...
