I was a bit skeptical about stopping by this spot because of the connotation of King Kong dim sum (the business that golden bay banquet took over). As I didn't have a good experience. But to my great surprise, the food has improved so much and from my understanding, they have another location in union city!
For the price and flavor of the food, I'd definitely recommend stopping by. However, if you are looking for new and modern dim sum dishes I wouldn't say that golden bay would provide that experience. They have more of the old and traditional dishes.
Some of my favorite items and highly recommend yall to order would be: deep fried taro root (not vegetarian - has pork intermixed) pan fried leek gor baked durian puff (i really appreciate this spot's version bc usually it has a small lingering taste of bitterness at other spots but this spot is fireee)
tips: VERY limited parking so be prepared for street parking on the busy E14th street or on the side parking inside the neighborhood areas relatively quick service id say but at the same time your ordering would be through a wipable menu with...
Read moreThe food is a hit or miss. The steamed char chiu boa was good but the sui mai was bloated and the chicken feet was “puffy”, maybe old leftovers reheated?
The good is that there is never a wait on a weekend (hmm.. wonder why) and plenty of street. Sometimes less people makes for a nicer eating environment.
The bad is that they automatically write in your tip for you. Other restaurants that do this have signage somewhere, on the menu or table, but zilch here. I was surprised and asked and their reply was that they do so “on Sundays”?? It doesn’t seem to be a consistent thing and also there it doesn’t seem to be a set amount that you choose on the machine and appears to be at the whim of whoever took the card. When I did the math, it came out to be 16.27 %. It’s standard and not a crazy amount but I’d prefer to have it be transparent and...
Read moreIt’s been ages since we’ve been here when it was King Kong. It isn’t as buzzing as before and in fact they’re much quieter.
But that’s perfect for us, came in for a late lunch on a Saturday and there were only a couple other tables. So we got seated and served right away! Can’t find that at most good dim sum joints.
Got the e-noodles with seafood in XO sauce as the main dish, and some dim sum dishes like the shrimp dumplings, durian puff, bean curd wrap etc. All came out quickly and were very good!
Parking is tricky as there’s only the front lot on this stretch of the street. So at peak hours you might have to park a couple blocks away or in the nearby neighborhood. Still a good option and we’ll...
