Summary: Racist waitress, mediocre food, do not come here if you are minority that wants to be treated like a decent human being
The food was mediocre at best, but the racist waitress warranted that I write this review. For context, I'm asian american, and my dad and I decided to try this place out. Our waitress was an old white lady with white hair. She was talking it up and laughing with all the other tables (more context: the place was predominantly occupied by white customers). Come our table, and she doesn't even make eye contact with either of us. Takes our order and then quickly goes to the next table to start chatting and laughing with the next table even asking "What's the occasion for coming here today?" which turned out to be one of their birthdays (again, white family). Takes her sweet time getting our order, I asked for hot sauce and she brought the hot sauce but instead of putting it on our table, she offered it to the birthday family's table to which they took it. I asked again, but it took a couple rounds of her walking before I asked someone else. She goes to the next table full of older white ladies like herself, laughs it up, goes to next table. I notice that she's avoiding tables which happen to have minorities such as myself, and if she does interact, she quickly (and half-assedly) fulfills their request before going back to the safe haven white tables. At this point it's pretty blatant that she was ignoring us as I had to ask multiple times for condiments, boxes, and the check. She came back with multiple checks and asked which of them was ours before heading to the birthday table and quickly placing theirs on the table without asking. My dad and I didn't say anything because she definitely would've spit in our food. I can safely say that this location is not inclusive to minorities. My dad and I are very disappointed and we will not be...
Read moreHave you ever had a meal so darn good that you want to slap someone? The Patty Melt was very scrumptious, mom had the Chicken Fried Steak, and we took pie to go. I saw a guy across from us enjoying their Fish-and-Chips. It looked so good I wanted to reach over and try it, but refrained from my rude impulse. Guess I’ll just have to return to order it myself.
The plates are filled and they are not stingy on the quantity of food. It matched the quality! I saw a plate of waffles pass by that took my breath away. Oh hell yeah, I gotta return to try that too. The waffles filled the circular plate and were piled up with whipped cream and strawberries like I have never seen before. The woman that ordered it was able to put away half of it, with the rest to go.
The plates passing by made me make a mental note that we have to return at least 6 more times to try out more of the menu. And return we will do.
The food is wholesome and made so good you’ll think you visited one of those country kitchens where food is made with true passion. Made with care. Served like they really want to satisfy your palate. And they do. They satisfy your palate so that you’ll return and write a 5 star review. If I could give them 10 stars, I certainly would.
Did I mention the pie? I got Dutch Apple and mom got Boysenberry. Oh Marie Callender, you’ve met your match! This lil hole in the wall business was quickly filling up as we ate. Many were return customers, which is its own testimony itself. We are amongst them. We appreciate good food and respect quality service. At Debbie’s...
Read moreI'm heartbroken to say this but maybe this will get the new owners attention. We've been coming to Debbie's for 25 yrs and service has always been excellent until recently, until Debbie left. In the last 1 1/2 months I've made two pretty large take out orders (one was around $50.00, one in high forties) The first time a corn chowder soup was missing, I called and instead of getting an apology I was told "all that was missing is one soup" in a dismissive voice. I never raised my voice, never got upset but she never apologized. I live 20 minutes from restaurant and it was rush hour. My dad has Alzheimers, mom's elderly and they wanted their food. The lady was downright rude. Debbie would never have tolerated that behavior. We thought it was a freak thing and gave them another try a couple of weeks ago. I called, someone answered and hung up on me. I get it you guys. You're busy. But you know what? We're now happily going to your counterpart The Village Pie Shoppe in Carlsbad and the service has been amazing. We go 4 x week- no problems with getting things wrong and they're efficient with the orders, friendly, professional. We don't know if you're going through a transition but money is money. I hope whoever is reading this will pass it on to the owner and management that there have been some problems especially since...
