First things first... NEW OWNER!!! OWNER is actually IN the restaurant making sure things are done right! Everyone knows this location under the OLD owner was terrible, it is absolutely night & day difference with the NEW OWNER (Nash), he actually cares about doing a great job and making sure you have good food, good portions and reasonable prices! Went in tonight for dinner, they are still getting situated (grand opening is in a couple weeks) but the food was really good, everyone was friendly and the place was CLEAN! So... What'd I have: 3 Meat Plate - Brisket, Polish Sausage and Turkey Brisket - On par with Texas style brisket, not dry and a nice flavor Sausage - Really good, lots of flavor, good grind Turkey - Delicious (and I'm not a turkey fan), most important thing is it is NOT dry at all! Being a Chicago born and raised "red meat guy" I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the turkey was my favorite! (and I don't like turkey!) Sides: FRESH CUT FRIES (my Kryptonite!), they were great, why do more restaurants not make delicious, fresh cut fries?!?!?! Well, they do here, YAY! Green Beans with Onion and Bacon: Delicious, a traditional Texas BBQ side and they do them well here. Portions were generous (unlike the old owner) and the food was all fresh and hot (sides were hot, BBQ is typically "warm" due to the nature of the cook & holding methods) Flavors were good and the sauces are served on the side (as they should be, if you go to a BBQ place and they cover everything in sauce, they are hiding something!) I'm so happy that Dickey's re-opened (under new owners) as they have good food (when they actually put in the effort and care), it is nice to be able to drive less than 10 minutes and get some pretty darn good BBQ... Forget what you knew about this location prior to Jan 2025, it is a completely different story now! Give the new owner a try and let him prove himself, he seems to really have a strong desire to succeed and make this a staple of the area... ***UPDATE*** Feb 18, 2025 - Second photo is tonight... 2 meats and double fries (probably shouldn't have!) Turkey and Polish Sausage... Left stuffed and VERY satisfied, these guys are hitting their groove and doing things right... Great service and great food, so nice to have a good BBQ place close by... If you haven't been here with the new owner, you are missing out on a good place for BBQ... Been here 3 times now since the new owner, keeps getting better! They are really getting dialed in and the food is very good... I hadn't been to this location in years because it was absolutely terrible with the old owner... Night and day difference with this new owner ("Nash") he is in there all the time and is making sure things are done right! Definitely give them a try, well worth it!

Have eaten Dickeys at several locations. When visiting San Marcos saw a familiar brand name and stopped for lunch. Ordered pulled pork plate and a chicken Caesar salad. I was the only guest waiting after ordering. I watched the staff moving about and doing several other tasks, none of which included making food. After 20 minutes I asked what was status of order and both employees realized no one was making food. I then watched lettuce being pulled from the store bag, not rinsed or washed, cut on a metal tray and throw into a chili bowl container and topped with some chicken. They pulled the pork from the hot box and threw it in a box and apologized for the wait. I had to ask where the sides of potato and coleslaw were, it was forgotten. They quickly threw it together. I then went to the bbq selection to grab some to go, only to find it cold and the steam tray not working. For $30 I was highly disappointed in the experience. From service, to order fulfillment, to quality.

Really really really disappointed. We ordered off of the Uber Eats app and decided to do pick up and not delivery. Upon unwrapping what was supposed to be two of their 40th Anniversary Specials with additionally paid for toppings, we found a dry sandwich with zero BBQ sauce on it or on the side, zero jalapeños which were ordered as extra, zero "extra rib"s that we had ordered as extra, and zero cheese as we had ordered as extra. So three of the things we paid for we not included in our order. In addition to that, we didn't even get the utensils we requested. My husband had even exclaimed to the employee he picked the order up from that the packaging was small and he was surprised. The employee said "Yeah. Don't worry." we spent more than $30 for $15 worth of meals. We are utterly disappointed. We do not recommend. At all. Not worth losing your money over.

Honestly should’ve read the comments before coming in!!!

The San Marcos location was by far the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE we’ve EVER experienced! We decided to take our group here on a Sunday afternoon after my sons football game. At first we were over looking the menu (only us inside) & seen kids eat free on Sundays. We thought cool. We even asked the cashier & she acknowledged the special. My husband had asked her if the bigger meals were a good sized portion & he & his best friend are carnivores & she replied yes they were big. We had to repeat everyone’s order MULTIPLE times to the cashier as she & the other 2 employees looked stoned out of their minds!!!! So we FINALLY get our order correct. As the food is coming out I see my order was wrong, I patiently wait & explain to the young lady who brought out our food that my order was wrong. Again having to repeat myself multiple times on what the problem was! My husband & his best friends plate were small portions (possibly a slice of meat bigger than my 4 year olds plate). I check the receipt to see that we’ve been charged for BOTH kids meals. I bring the receipt up to the cashier & she tells me “we didn’t tell her about how the kids meals need to be free!” When we indeed asked her about it & told her. So she then tells me she needs to wait for another young lady (whom walked in just a few minutes prior reeking of marijuana) to help me out. She comes & the cashier explains to her the situation, she then looks at the receipt & struggles to figure out what to do on the screen. She pushes & couple of buttons & says “ok I refunded it & it should be back on your card by today or tomorrow” I asked if she was sure & she said yes. She didn’t want to give me my receipt back but I asked again for it & she gave it back to me with attitude! I know for sure we wouldn’t be refunded that day. Maybe 5-7 days if that. I checked my account & still nothing! Mind you we went on the 6th of the month! I’ve called this location MULTIPLE times & all it does it ring & go to voicemail. I’m so furious. This location really needs better customer service. If you’re going to do drugs at least know how to focus & concentrate on your job! So please be cautious of this place & what...

Absolutely despicable! They are advertised all over 8 News channel as well as every Veteran’s Day restaurants promotion. They advertise a free pulled pork sandwich on Veteran’s Day with promo code VETFREE. We were out in the area, both of us retired veteran’s, and ordered one each online since they say they do pick up orders as well. We ordered the free sandwich at 11:29 with a pick up time of 12:15 and included a tip obviously because I’m not going to give them nothing. Went to pick up the order at 12:15 and they stated we stopped doing this promo 15 minutes ago. First of all your advertisements are everywhere and it says nothing about a time line like most other restaurants do. Secondly, that means you do the promo for what, one hour because you just opened at 11 am and it’s now 12:15. Third, the order was placed at 11:29 so it still should be in the hour time line. After all this, we state how about our tip we already paid you and received nothing? They stated they will refund at some time. Listen here you overpriced BBQ place that has small portions, don’t advertise something you don’t plan on following through with. If you are a veteran or active duty I suggest you not support this false advertising company with your hard earned money. Needless to say, corporate was notified with no help, channel 8 news was notified of their false claim, we received no food, and they still got our tips! Sorry...
