Old California Restaurant Row — Restaurant in San Marcos

I haven't been to Old California Mining Company since '99-'00...yeah it's been a minute. At this time they aren't taking reservations. The restaurant wasn't terribly crowded, and they offered indoor or outdoor seating. Back in the day I remembered having a chicken dish, and the garlic mashed potatoes that were to die for! Tonight, I was open to trying something different, which was going to be the Sea Bass, but ultimately decided on the Miner's Club. The club sandwich wasn't made like a traditional club where it's cut in quarters - it looked like a toasted, sloppily made sandwich. It tasted great, but the presentation was terrible. The fries were good - can't really get fries wrong. I also had a Cadillac Margarita which was okay. The waitress was great and very attentive, but I was hoping she'd ask if I wanted dessert. I knew when I got there that I was going to consider it, and forgot about it. I'd go back again and try the Sea Bass with the garlic...

I love the ambience at Old California Coffee House and Eatery. It beats the environment of the chained cafe, as it offers cozy and vintage sitting areas for lounge, study, or simple conversation. You can enjoy your coffee inside on a couch, or outside at the fire-pit while listening to live music. The vegan chili and split pea soup with bacon are definite comfort foods on the menu. I feel that the menu is pretty diverse for such a small cafe and the ingredients are all healthy and natural. Their sandwiches are fresh and hearty with taste. The service is very warm, and I noticed the owner referred to frequent customers by name. I came here when I first moved to the San Diego area 5 years ago. We arrived around 6:00 p.m. and we're seated on the patio there were three other tables with two patrons each. There were two waiters that took care of the three tables and never even acknowledged the fact that we were sitting there. after 15 minutes of waiting I went back inside and asks for some service. Finally, a waitress showed up and she was very pleasant took our drink order after serving us our drink she took our food order. An hour later our food arrived it was lukewarm at best including the baked potato. When I went inside there were no other patrons in there so the place was basically empty.
