Quick summary, we ate here for the first time last weekend and we will without a doubt be back. Tye was an amazing waiter and overall loved the whole experience. See more details below.
The concept of this place is a little difficult to understand especially for this area but I have ate at several similar places. The instructions aren't really clear, I still don't know how a take-out plate or to-go box for leftovers would work. If you see a bad review stating to-go or something, it was probably warranted. The general concept is, you get a plate, you pick all the items you want like rice, fish, chicken, beef, shrimp, veggies, etc, then pick a bowl to add a sauce and or seasoning, take the bowl to the cook, give them your table number and the server brings it to you in about 5 minutes. They also have a side menu with orange chicken and other traditional Chinese items to order directly if the other style isn't your pick. Everything except drinks are included in the all-you-can-eat price, so whether you eat a bowl of white rice or you eat 4lbs of shrimp, you will pay the buffet price, which was about 16 when we went. The food is all raw, you build your own plate and they cook it for you, so any review you see on bland food, it is obviously because they didn't add seasoning or sauce.
The service was outstanding at worst, we had a young man named Tye serving us and he was by far one of the best waiters I have ever had at any restaurant I have ever went to. The secondary items we ordered came out hot and quick, never had to ask for a refill and he stopped by plenty of times to see if we needed anything else.
I have seen a few reviews on the raw meat being warm or there being flies, I didn't see a single fly while I was eating and the raw food was more than cold enough for safety in my opinion. Next time I eat there I will take a meat thermometer and update this review if anything is in the danger zone.
Overall, 10/10, we will be back and I have already told at least 10 other people...
Read moreTwo out of the 3 times I've been here were a good experience. Today my husband took me here for mother's day. I watched the teenage cashier tell a disabled woman she couldn't have her service dog with her while getting her food. I'd understand if it was a regular dog and it was trying to take the food off of the bar or something. However, it was a working dog doing it's job. The woman decided she was going to leave and I proceeded to see the teenage cashier talk to the manager laughing together about the situation. Instead of the manager informing her of laws and rights, they proceeded to laugh together and talk about the woman. Witnessing what happened today was extremely disappointing. I understand kids working may not me educated on things like this, however the disabled woman with her service dog tried to explain that her dog was allowed in all of the public spaces by law and the cashier proceeded to try and make her point and have her leave her dog at the table. In a medical emergency whats the point of having a service dog if it's across a restaurant from you and can't do its job. I really wish you guys would of done better.
Also be careful if you have a shrimp allergy or any type of allergy at this place, the sweet and sour chicken is 100 percent cooked with the sweet and sour shrimp. I ate the chicken and only tasted shrimp. The won tons weren't cooked all of the way this time either. The inside of the wrapper...
Read moreOur family absolutely loved it here! we will definitely be coming back! I have a few nitpics but no true complaints. All of our picky kiddos found something to eat, and they all got full to our surprise! The kids loved the noodles at the hibachi, and so did the adults! The sushi selection was pretty decent, and they had a little salad/fruit bar that was nice, the kids loved! There was a little selection of dessert and jello too, which is always cool! The staff was super nice and acomidating. We didn't feel like our kids were bothering anyone, and we all felt welcome and comfortable. The staff was really friendly to our kids even. The staff was so helpful, and on top of it! we never even had to press the button they were close by the whole time! There were 7 of us all eating, and they had no issue moving a chair over to accommodate us. And the bill was more than reasonable for what we got. The buffet and drinks for 4 adults and 3 kids. And we got 4 bubble lemonades and 1 iced coffee. All of that for around $135 plus tip. I have no complaints about that! Especially since we all had such a great time! China star was always a family spot for us and held a lot of memories. but we are excited to make new ones with Shibuya! Thank you again to the awesome staff there. You guys...
