I'm appointing myself as a historian.
To understand Evan's Brothers, you can try the coffee (good!) but you also have to know something about the history of Coffee in Sandpoint. Before EB came in '09 the only coffee shop worth going to was Monarch Mountain. Monarch Mountain had the space, but had terrible coffee and many changes in ownership in its time.
When EB came onto the scene, they didn't have the space, but they did have far better coffee, and with time while the ownership of MM tried to expand their amenities, EB's development of their space combined with their superior coffee won out.
MM and other locale's also made enemies of large crowds of people who came to meet with each other in discussion groups. EB however remains pretty open.
There once was a Yelp reviewer in Sandpoint who would confidently declare if a business was LIBERAL or CONSERVATIVE, she deemed EB as liberal. It's true, it is, but that doesn't mean you won't be sharing the space with people engaged in bible study, frequently.
I'm not sure if google will remove the EB's comment on my review, but their "approval" is from six years ago, I'm not sure if they support my Candor here! I offer it in full support of them, the biz, and the community they've built for SP...
Read moreThis locally owned and operated shop & mill has the most friendly staff I've yet encountered for a coffee house. Most of all, the beans they hand select, organic beans also in house, is then roasted and produced by thier own employee hands on process. (Other major coffee companies loose quality in mass production) My uncle, who lives in Ohio and my father in Florida (major coffee snobs) have finally ended thier years of searching for the perfect cup of coffee! This includes myself as I travel the world (internationally as a flight attendant) sipping and tasting every coffee imaginable. When visiting Sandpoint area and came upon the historic mill by chance, we thought the flavor of, Big Timber, was the best yet, but our search was over in the perfect cup of coffee labeled as Chair Six. I also recommend the stronger blend with the mountain biker label. It kicked me off hard before my day of extreme down hill mountain biking and unlike energy drinks, no sugar crash, just my own on the hill (Bikes OK though) ;-) Love the vibe at the mill, the people who run it, but most of all, Finally....A PERFECT...
Read moreEvans Brothers roasts it's own brand of coffee and it's really good! You can buy it by the lb, or drop in for a coffee (or tea) and just sit a while with your friends or use there wifi to catch up on business.
You can also buy pastries and burrito type food items. In the summer you can also sit outside, and find the occasional food truck or two parked very near by.
They are also great at supporting the local community by displaying works of art on their walls, and hosting the odd event. Plus, their coffee house space used to be rentable for small meetings?
I have also purchased/rented their filled coffee pump carafe for very reasonable price. It came with cups, sugar, creamer, stirrers and napkins. Totally took care of everything I needed, one less thing to worry about at event I was organizing!
Try them out. You won't be disappointed. Definitely a place designed for you to just hang out and drink really...
