We recently went to Pie Hut for pies. Sadly the pies aren't like they were 5 or so years ago.
The crust is very thin and similar to shoe leather this time. None of us could cut bites with a fork and ended up just eating around it.
I like a crust that is light and flaky with a touch of sweetness. The Pie Hut crust tastes like frozen store bought and is dense, hard, and very salty.
The cherry pie filling tasted like canned pie cherries. ( I'm okay with that but it should state it is a mass produced cherry filling and not homemade)
The pecan pie's goo was like chewing old salt water taffy. My mom lost her filling with this one! (Shout out to Mount Baldy Medical Center for getting us in immediately)
The apple crumble was decent to good but seemed to have no cinnamon but lots of ginger. I would eat this again, but would prefer an actual tasty juicy apple pie with cinnamon etc.
The huckleberry pie was the star at the Pie Hut.
Customer service could be better. I watched her help a hard of hearing man who asked for a slice of pie from inside the case. The blond yelled at him that they only sell pies in the case. He pointed to it in the case and she told him that there are 2 whole pies in the case. When he asked which one she would allow of the two he could have, she screamed only those in the case. He tried to deescalate it and asked if the pies next to her in the case would do. She kept saying pies in the case are set out to be sold. He said where may I select pies from, where is the correct pie case. She pointed to the same case he had been using to show her which pies he previously asked about. She told him that she didn't have time for this, there is only one case, and walked away. No other employee came to help him. I'm not sure what she meant, either one can buy a pie out of the one case next to her or one cannot. She kept saying pies in the case are set out to be sold.
I didn't see anything else in the public areas. She pointed to the case he had been using to show her which pies he previously asked about. When he started he wanted the one she pointed to she got frustrated and moved to the next customer and never helped the poor old hard if hearing guy again. He waited until the others were fine and she left to go back into the kitchen. Poor guy got no pie there.
The way she treated the customers and her staff was testy and sharp. The rest of the staff seems to be great.
Note for visitors in the area: They do not accept credit cards. They do accept cash. They are closed Sundays and Mondays.
It seemed small inside so I'm not sure if it is wheelchair...
Read moreAfter not eating here for about 5years, My lovely partner got me lunch, & I’m so thankful he did. Every bite brought back a sense of comfort and satisfaction I didn’t realize I missed so much.
I ordered the Vietnamese Bà Mì sandwich, and wow, it was exceptional. The ginger and garlic beef was flavorful and tender, the pickled carrots, onions, and cucumbers gave it the perfect refreshing crunch. The bread was soft but still perfectly toasted, giving each bite that ideal balance of texture. The sriracha mayo and cilantro pesto added just the right depth and brightness, while the fresh cilantro tied it all together. It was beautifully made, filling, balanced, and absolutely delicious. Truly a sandwich worth coming back for.
I also ordered the crème brûlée pie, which I’ve loved, and I’m happy to say it’s still delicious as I remember. The caramelized sugar topping was beautiful, with that golden crackle that gave way to a silky custard underneath. It was crunchy yet melted in my mouth with every bite. The only note I’d offer is that the crust had a slightly burnt, off taste, almost like it caught a bit too much flame, but that didn’t take away from the joy of eating it. The pie was still a treat, and I appreciated every bite.
Altogether, the sandwich, the clam chowder, and the pie made this return feel special. I hope others get the chance to enjoy it too....
Read more#2 Oct 9th 2025 - I'm back! - thrilled to be back. Last June I'd partaken in the delicacy known as the, "Pie." It has taken me this long to shed that delightful weight gain. Remember, I did that for you Idaho. Now that I am recovered, ITS ON! Did a mix & match resulting in "2" pies. 🥧 Employee "Jill" was instrumental in conforming the dish. I hope they read there reviews? Don't be scared owner. You'll smile 😃 I'll probably need more counseling to recover again. Oh, the humanity. The Apple Magot 🍎 🪱
#1 - June 2025 Oh, this is a terrible place 😢 No one else should go here. When I'm in town. As a matter of fact, I am willing to step out on a limb here and offer to become the sacrificial customer. My family members are also willing to take one for the team. "Idahoins" shouldn't be subject to the likes of a "Wuhan Lab" situation 😷🤒🤢 Think of the children🥹🙅♂️🤷♀️ Think of your pets🦮🐈🦌🫎🐁🦣😱 who will feed them? Or will they just become 🤔 ferrell, viscous & ganguley. Remember that rabbit 🐇 🐰 in the "Holy Grail?" It slaughtered all who pass. Not just a flesh wound 🤕 I'm doing this for others🧐🤲🙏 Again, the "Pie Hut" is a heart ❤️ attack in waiting. A cholesterolic gang blank waiting for you to jump. A "pie-o-hemorrhagic" 🎱phenomenon with a grave side setting ⌛️🩺⚰️🪦 I do it for you; Idaho The...
