Came here for a Christmas lunch thrown by a place I work at. Let's just say that although my food was paid for, I will definitely be back and pay for it myself! Let me start my saying that I love reuben sandwiches. Seems like such a simple dish right?: corned beef (or pastrami), with sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, Thousand Island dressing on rye bread. Simple ingredients, but yet still oh so easy to mess up. If I ever see a reuben sandwich on a menu, I tend to order that as litmus test of the restaurant as a whole. Let me tell you, although not gigantic in portion size like a Katz Deli reuben, this is one of the best tasting reuben sandwiches I have had in Atlanta. Are there better ones in this city and surrounding areas? I'm sure there are, but I really loved the balance of ingredients in the reuben I was given at Southern Bistro. Besides that, I can only comment on what I had. The cauliflower soup was nice and the sweet tea was on point! Sweet, but not overly, diabetic coma inducing sweet. The deviled eggs were okay. Not bad by any means, but nothing to make them stand out either. Nothing to write home about as was the pimento cheese. Enjoyable sure, but just there.
The atmosphere was pleasant. Our party sat in the back and it was comfortable. It felt like we were eating on a friend's back porch (covered, thank goodness, since it was a cold day). Finally, we had a party of 18 and Khalea (hope I spelled that right) was awesome. The food came out promptly and was delicious. We did come at the end of the lunch rush so I don't know if that made the food delivery more prompt, but our party had a very...
Read moreI have many things to say about my most recent experience at Southern Bistro.
First and foremost, the hostess and our waiter was rude to us from the beginning of brunch. We waited about 25 minutes to be seated (the restaurant was not full), but we were cordial and patient entire time we waited. Once we got seated, our waiter made a slightly rude comment to my mother but we quickly ordered and carried on. As our food was being placed down, our waiter proceeded to verbally assault my 90 year old grandfather for asking for fries to be heated (they were cold when they were served). He was screaming at my grandfather in the middle of the restaurant telling him that he was rude and shouldn't treat people that way... my grandfather was nothing but polite to this man. He was extremely aggressive and almost physically assaulted my grandfather, again a 90 year old man. After this altercation, the waiter never came back to our table to check on us or give us our check at the end of the meal. My sister had to get up to find him to give him our credit card and he would not speak to her.
Next, as mentioned above the food was subpar. My food was served incorrectly and almost everyone's dishes were cold and we were afraid to send anything back since the waiter acted so incredibly inappropriately and unprofessionally to my grandfather.
To make matters worse, this all happened at my mother's birthday brunch. An event that was supposed to be celebratory was pretty much ruined by the waitstaff. I will never be back to this restaurant and strongly advise people to avoid this...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to go out and have a date night. We found this place because it was about 5 mins away from where we were staying. We called and made reservations for 5 pm, but we ended up arriving a little earlier. Proceeded to call and ask if coming earlier was ok and was told it was fine. We walked into the establishment and it was only 2 groups of patrons inside the restaurant, so we were seated by the hostess. After being seated a couple of elder ladies were sitting across the room from us, and a waitress came to check on them. Mind you, it's about 8 waiters/waitresses on the floor at this time with only 2 tables being occupied (before my husband and myself were seated). This Caucasian waitress walks pass us 3 times to check on the elder Caucasian ladies sitting across the room from us, but not once stopped to ask if we were ok, if we needed something to drink, or anything. We haven't even been greeted at this point. So after 20 mins of sitting there and no one comes to check on us, we decide to leave. Upon walking out, the same Caucasian waitress as well as an African American waitress ( both standing outside) the African American waitress asks why we are leaving? We told her that we hadn't even been greeted since we had been seated. She went in to see why, but we decided to take our...
