My first experience with Kathy's Java Express was over ten years ago. I worked right down the street and on chilly afternoons , mid winter, nothing warmed my frozen soul like a warm cup of french onion soup from Kathy's. Truly delightful. Give it a try if you haven't. Years later and I'm almost literally right back where I started. Which is great for me because Kathy's is right next door and I can sample a little something new everyday! From what I've tried I would recommend it all. Their chicken salad is wondiferous! Especially when paired with sour dough bread. The bacon cheddar buger is a must try! And of course their baked potato salad! The only complaint I can make is that they're always out of regular potato salad. That's really more of a me problem though. Just means I need to get there earlier. Haha. I had a customer come in the other day and tell me that they drove over an hour just to get some of their rice crispy treats. So of course I had to buy one too. And I must say, they are rather delicious. Kathy's Java Express is a wonderful place to stop whether you're looking for a warm meal or a warm cup of coffee. Also connected is the Sanford Antique Mall. Grab yourself a snack and an antique! What else is better than that?

The food was a hit or miss on our table. Bird soup? Fantastic? Tomato and Basil sandwich, flavor was good except I think the tomatoes should have been sliced instead of diced. The diced tomatoes kept falling all over the place. It also needed more cheese and more pesto. The chicken quesadilla was ok. Again I thought the ratios were off. Too much chicken to cheese and also the chicken was too sweet. Savory is what I prefer, but if you prefer sweet chicken this is your quesadilla. No complaints on a salad. Well put together and tasted like a salad with dressing of choice. Easy enough. The price of everything was right on par with a small cafe. The atmosphere needs a slight update, but still very comfortable which is what a cafe needs.

I had a 1/2 grilled turkey and cheese sandwich which was good, and a crock of French onion soup. The soup tasted ok but was luke warm, the cheese didn't melt. We also tried bird soup which tasted very good but was also luke warm. When I was paying my bill I asked why it wasn't hot? The waitress said we were changing pots of soup and it wasn't warm yet. She said you could have told us and we would have warmed it up. No one came to ask if we needed anything after we started eating. We will try them again.

Was really excited to see Sanford has a real coffee shop. I certainly was in the mood for a cup of Joe and a sandwich.

Upon entering, the atmosphere was clearly quite busy since it was lunch, but I was promptly greeted. I noted that there were several people around me that were obviously waiting on their order. After about 10 minutes, I was asked for my drink order. I requested to forego the drink and just place my order, again mentally notating the people around me still waiting.

The food that I saw looked delicious and smelled great. However, after 15mins, my order still had not been started. At this point, I had to cancel my order and leave for work.

My suggestion to the Java Express's staff would be to set wait time expectations so customers could make the choice to stay or not.

My suggestion to customers would be plan on a hour of your time if you go during lunch.

I'll try them again soon (I still wait my coffee and sandwich), but I'll be on a day I have plenty of...

I didn’t get the chance to experience the coffee that I was hoping to try unfortunately. I counter. I then proceeded to walk around the counter to better view the menu and then I went back to the cash register. Another cashier and I looked at each other but no one said anything. Another patron came into the building and the second cashier came over to take her order. I announced “I was here first ma'am” and she stated “okay what do you want to order” while the first cashier who hadn’t acknowledged me came right up and took the order of the patron behind me. At this point I no longer desired to be here, I no longer desired to spend any money at this establishment. I was completely ignored and then brushed off to the side. I informed the owner, who was sweet enough to offer me a service which I declined. Cashiers...
