Restaurant Review: Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken – Sanford, FL

After nearly five years of living in Sanford, I finally decided to try Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, a spot that’s been on my radar but never on my plate—until now.

We ordered an 8-piece meal with three sides: mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and beans, along with an extra piece of a spicy breast. The chicken was the highlight—crispy, well-seasoned, and flavorful, although the size of the pieces left something to be desired. For the price point, I expected meatier pieces.

As for the sides, there were mixed results. The mac and cheese and beans were both surprisingly good, especially for a fast-casual chain—creamy, hearty, and a nice complement to the chicken. Unfortunately, the mashed potatoes missed the mark. They tasted overly processed and likely instant, which was a letdown considering the rest of the meal.

We ordered through DoorDash, and the total came to $99 including tip. I left a 20% tip plus an additional $10 in cash upon delivery because our driver had to wait at the restaurant for 20 minutes and we understand that time is money and the delay and extra expense is the restaurants fault. We always consider this when a driver has to wait on food and you should too. Time costs the driver money, so I had to ding them for that.

Final Thoughts:

Lee’s delivered on flavor and Southern comfort appeal, especially with the spicy chicken and classic sides. However, portion sizes and going cheap on food quality will make it hard for us to justify a repeat order at this price point. Definitely not going to be a regular go-to...

I've been a customer of Lee's for a long time and I adore their meals. I've read a lot of these reviews, and some of the unfavorable ones are just plain false! A lot of these people are being utterly ridiculous; if I didn't call ahead or wait for my food, I wouldn't expect it to be hot and fresh. I always request fresh chicken gizzards or inquire about their storage time when I purchase them. And if I decide to wait, I don't get upset if it takes longer than intended since, in all honesty, it's so worth it!! I have no trouble waiting because the food is usually delectable and well prepared. Moving on to customer service, there is one brown-skinned woman who works at the front desk and she is a joy. She always has a smile on her face, refuses to let some of the other challenging customers mar her customer service, and is always polite. The younger employees are currently less skilled, but they are still not all that horrible; there are a couple that are usually grinning. And today I saw one boy, whom I mistook for a girl, cleaning and helping customers everywhere while running throughout the store. He put so much effort into his job; it's comforting to know that this generation is not doomed. Finally, you've arrived to the right place if you want high-quality fried chicken and helpful service. Thursday June 2 2022 at 11:50 am a friend and I entered Lees in Sanford Florida There was a lady at the counter ahead of us finishing placing her takeout order and we observer three elderly people sitting at one table eating their meals. Our turn to order came and we placed our order with an inattentive woman who gave the impression she needed to be elsewhere. We received our order in a reasonable amount of time and took it to a table to eat. There was only one table that didn’t have crumbs on the surface and crumbs on the seats. We both agreed our meals were excellent. At 12:10 pm the place was almost at capacity for lunch. From where I was sitting I could hear and see people bringing back takeout orders that were wrong by three different patrons. After finishing eating I went to the restroom to wash my hands. Immediately when I opened the door a stench rolled out, there was used paper towels laying on the floor next to an overflowing trash can, wet and dry urine all over the floor and on the urinal and toilet.
