I come to Sanibel 3-5 times a year with my family. I've been coming to this joint for over a decade and have always enjoyed it. However, I went in in a few hours ago and this was one of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant. I am guessing they're under new management (or perhaps got rid of management all together!). Nearly the entire stuff was texting and goofing around. No one came to refill my drinks, I had to ask after running out of patience. Our server was rude and didn't care. We always tip 20-30% but this time we tipped about 15%, something I had never done before! To make matters worse, the server disappeared for about 10 minutes while we were waiting for a togo box and the bill and guess what!? My brother went to the restroom and saw her in the back area facetiming! This is beyond ridiculous. As far as food, I can tell the owner must be different because the house salad used to be awesome but this time it was just some lettuce, 1 piece of tomato, 2 pieces of cucumber, and a lot of black olives. No italian love there. Then, the coconut shrimp were super tiny and overpriced, not to mention overcooked. The pizza was pretty good but still didn't taste like it used to. I say this with a heavy heart because I loved this place and have a ton of good memories, but we'll probably never go back there. It's not worth the time, effort, and money to waste it on a bunch of spoiled lazy brats that would rather be texting instead of taking care of their...
Read moreMy husband and I have made this our must go to since 2003, based on my husband having come to island pizza since the early 90’s... it’s our fav spot where we encourage others to go... until our recent visit. We had heard they made changes to the inside from the traditional marlin and beer sign on the wall but we didn’t realize that the food too had been changed. The pizza is no longer the traditional island pizza. what broke my heart was when my 8 year old asked why they started serving frozen pizza since she too had fallen in love w this place. We ordered 2 pizzas, a calzone, a salad, and a kids meal that took just over 30 minutes, made from scratch ok but the pizza came out thin and as my daughter stated, tasted like a frozen pizza. The calzone wasn’t cooked entirely as the mozzarella wasn’t melted throughout, and the marinara for the calzone was watered down and tasteless. When questioned, they seemed not shocked by us asking if the dough was frozen and passed it on as they make it fresh daily. They asked if we wanted the calzone reheated but by this point, we really didn’t want to wait longer.... It’s sad to have to one star our favorite place to eat on the island but it also destroys me that based on their changes, we won’t be returning.... Our fifteen year tradition has ended after this experience The one star is for the staff..... friendly...
Read morePleasantly surprised !! Parking lot was full, but found parking pretty easily. Restaurant was full but is "seat yourself" and we found a table fairly quickly. The place was busy so the waitress was busy with many tables, service wasn't the fastest but wasn't unreasonably slow either, any idiot could see she was busy and hurrying to serve as many as possible as quickly as possible so...a little patience goes a long way. THE MEAL: 5 of us served. The teriyaki wings were pretty good, not over done, and tasty. The pizza was thin crust, the Margherita pizza was very good, not burnt, ingredients were tasty, no complaints there. Calzone was big enough to feed two and most of it went home with us. Lastly, the rigatoni with sausage was pretty good too. Was everything star spangled awesome? No, that's why only 4 stars but..everything really was pretty darn good, even the salads weren't bad. Waitress kept the drinks filled, meal went smoothly, no complaints. If you're a super picky snob looking for a Michelin Star restaurant, go somewhere else. If you're a normal person that want's a decent meal at a decent price...than this is the place for you. Have a beer and a...
