MacIntosh Books + Paper — Local services in Sanibel

Lovely little bookstore. When I visited, there was a small rack of 50% off books outside the front door with some great choices on it. Inside, there’s a nice selection of stationary and paper items to the left. The majority of the rest of the store is books. Diverse, interesting selection of cookbooks. I wish I had more room in my luggage because I found 3 I wanted to buy on the spot! The table of staff recommendations had some great selections as well. I even noted a few shelves of what appeared to be local books focused on Sanibel.

There is a small children’s section at the back with a decent selection of chapter books and picture books, considering the size of this little shop. There are also some high quality puzzles, games, and paper supplies from companies like eeboo and Mudpuppy — two of my favorites for puzzles and games. I grabbed a new card game for my boys because if I have to play another round of go fish on this vacation, I might go crazy. Ha! There is a very small selection of board books, which I’d say is not surprising (it is a small store after all) but I’d be happy to make some interesting, quality board book suggestions if they are looking to add to this section in the future. I did grab one board book for my new niece because it was a favorite from my childhood.

I can't explain how delighted I was to patronize this a local bookstore on the island! It was my first time staying in the Sanibel property that my husband and I purchased 2 and 1/2 years ago, 28 days before Ian destroyed it. My stay this month has been an exploration for me in building community in this place, and a big part of that has been identifying and supporting local businesses. My first visit to McIntosh Books + Paper certainly won't be my last, and I definitely urge any folks who rent our place on island also check it out while they are here! I was able to snag a gorgeous journal to be used in the new year, some beautiful note cards, and some super interesting books. There's a great selection, and it's set up in such a welcoming way. The store owner was extremely friendly and very helpful in guiding individuals in the store in finding books they might enjoy based on their questions. Great selection, nicely merchandised and super friendly staff. Everything you need in a bookstore!

We are setting up our home and wanted some local Sanibel books on the shelves. We emailed and worked out a list of great books and they even delivered to our home for us!
