Great ice cream! We're not from around the area, so when looking up a good ice cream place, this place kept coming up as the choice option. We were staying on Sanibel Island so the location proximity from our resort, coupled with the reviews, and of course our yearning for good churning led us to this option!
The place has great charm - a local establishment that is serving up some out-of-this-world flavors. When we arrived, you can tell that it was busy but the line was moving fast. There were enough workers behind the counter handling orders, and it was sort of nice to wait a little just so we had a chance to read the options and settle on our choices. The girl handling our order was really sweet and didn't rush us along as we asked a million questions on the different flavors. The menu is LENGTHY so it'll take a bit to get through. I did appreciate them denoting which ones had nuts, gluten, etc. for those with specified aversions or allergies. Outside, there is decent parking, but if it were any busier, I think we would've had to circle a bit. I think most people were eating ice cream on the spot so cars weren't coming and going that quickly.
At the counter we had a chance to test out some of their unique flavors and ended up choosing the six scoop option to spit between the four of us (more bang for your buck :]). We chose some classics like cookies 'n' creme, salted caramel, birthday cake, and then added some of their more unique options (which I'll leave for others to discover on their own - surprises await!).
The ice cream was creamy and smooth. The flavorings were great, with the necessary accoutrements being well incorporated (i.e. enough cookies for that creme!) You can tell that they really were pouring in the "love" in making their product. Also the portions were more than enough! We had to work to finish the cup between us all, but nevertheless enjoying each bite.
Come here for your sweet tooth fix - you'll...
Read moreWe spent a week in Captiva/Sanibel. Love Boat Ice Cream was a must stop EVERY day! One day we went 2x. This ice cream is the most delicious I have had since I was a kid and we had a place that made it fresh like Love Boat does. My daughter has a Peanut/Tree nut allergy and this place handled it beautifully every time. She has really never had the opportunity to go to an ice cream shop and order whatever she liked. They have a giant board listing all their flavors. Each one indicates weather it contains gluten (which we also avoid) or nuts or both. Every employee was well versed in the store's procedure for allergies. They washed their hands, and took bins from the back that were not in contact with the allergens. They used fresh scoop and used an allergen free surface. Every employee was kind and patient and confident about how to handle her order. We would get the 2 or 3 scoop option and she was able to try 3 different flavors and many different combinations because of such an extensive selection. This made the vacation for her. Until you have an allergy you will never understand what it is like to not be able to have something simple like a scoop of ice cream. The employees never made us feel like we were a bother either. They were all so amazing. The shop is so much fun and there is beautiful seating outside as well. Thank you Love Boat Ice Cream for giving my daughter a very unique and...
Read moreA must if you are in Sanibel Island and looking for an ice cream place to eat.
Super cute themed restaurant in an awesome location. They are located inside the Jerry’s Foods Plaza which is covered with tall trees that provides shaded areas in case you choose to eat out side and enjoy the breeze that comes from the beach or take pictures with the parrot right in the courtyard.
Now, the amount of flavors they have is almost overwhelming. Not a complaint, just quite a lot to choose from and if you like a lot of flavors then choosing can become very hard.
You can ask the staff to try the flavors before making a final decision.
I have tried the blueberry cheesecake which is delicious, Salted caramel bacon which was not my cup of tea, birthday cake which was what we got for the kids, mudslide and rocky road which is what I got on a cup and a cone on top of it.
The ice cream shop is pretty small so there might not always be space to seat depending on the time of the day and year you visit but remember that there are also tables outside where you can sit.
Their prices are fair : Kid Cone or cup - $4 Small cone or cup - $5 Large cup - $6 Waffles are 0.50 cents extra
They also have milk shales, malts, floats, freezies and sodas as well as coffee beverages.
Love this location just as much as I love the one in Fort...
