If your not from Cajun land aka Louisiana, then mud bugs will probably be pretty good food. Iām going to review this accordingly because the name is mud bugs and itās a New Orleans inspired restaurant. If you have a New Orleans inspired restaurant, you need to come correct. Iām originally from Louisiana for 33 years. My father was a master of Cajun and creole cuisine so I consider myself your local resident Cajun expert . I am a self proclaimed Cajun chef, and a keeper of the traditional cajun/ creole cuisine. We keep going back in hopes that things get better. The food is good, but in my opinion it doesnāt come close to New Orleans cuisine. The boudin balls were bland and lacked flavor and meat, mainly white rice. The crawfish werenāt seasoned well at all and needed to soak longer. The crab cakes were actually very good and were on brand for Cajun cuisine. I actually also enjoyed the frog legs, they were cooked and seasoned great. The pasta dishes were lacking seasoning, it would be best to add some Tasso and creole seasoning to the bases of these dishes to add depth. There are levels in the restaurant Industry, and when I think of a New Orleans inspired restaurant on none other than Sanibel, I know this place could be so much better. The blackened seafood needs some help but with a few adjustments this place could be unbelievable. The atmosphere and setting are great. Great service and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDamn was this place fantastic. Good Cajun/creole food is my absolute favorite. Don't get me wrong, I love all food, especially a nice fat, juicy steak, but there is just something about Cajun grub that has always got me. We came down for vacation and I knew this place existed before I even l left to head out this way lol. I will say that I did not get an entree this time around as I ordered about everything there was to have off the appetizer section. From the oysters to the red beans and rice, the blackened gator tail, the dusted crayfish tails, shrimp, boudin balls and everything in between, it was most excellent. As were the beignets. The server was fantastic, the drinks were ice cold, the guy playing live music was awesome...and the food. An all around excellent experience and I will likely be going back tonight or tomorrow. The shrimp are huge (head on, whole) but don't let that weird you out. Some folks might whine and complain that they arent de-veined, but look, this is Cajun food at thats just the way it is. Crayfish come the same way, don't hear anybody crying about those. If you cant handle it/dont like it, move on, this aint for you. They are cooked to perfection and the Cajun garlic butter they come in is hands down some of the best out there. This place was crackin when we stopped in, so plan ahead. Kudos to the folks at Mudbugs,...

MudBugs on Sanibel Island has delicious food, at prices that you might expect to pay for food of this quality. The portion sizes are very respectable and everything we ordered was served quickly, and tasted fresh.
Itās been 8 years or soā¦since Iāve eaten Alligator, and they had it on the menu, so I gave it another shot. It was better prepared tonight at MudBugs than it was when I had it in Shreveport years ago.
The Chicken and Andouille Sausage Gumbo was very flavourful, and served with delicious toasted bread.
The Jambalaya was also on point. The portion sizes were so perfectly selected so you donāt go home in pain.
They will spice anything to your liking, and have the appropriate (Louisiana - Tabasco) sauce on the table.
The drinks were big, and had plenty of flavour. We had an Unsweetened Iced Tea, and a āSwamp Waterā (cocktail), Both were very good.
Our server Frannie (?), was lovely. She helped us navigate the vast menu, and made sure our orders arrived promptly and accurately.
Our bill was JUST under $96.00 for (2) people. We did NOT have dessert as we were ācomfortably engorgedā, from dinner.
Thanks MudBugs for...
