5 stars so it stays at the top PLEASE READ.
Please please look at the 1 star reviews of this place they are not kidding.
I went to this place with my husband and my toddler 3 days ago so on Friday.
First we entered and there was no direction on whether we seat ourselves or wait to be seated. I could already tell that the staff was a mess so we asked someone if we chose our own seats so we wouldn’t be standing around like idiots.
We had to wait to be attended once we were already sat & we were attended by the bus boy who couldn’t even tell us what drinks they had. He ended up sending us a waiter. Because I could already tell that the service was going to be terrible, by the time the actual waiter came I made sure to have our whole family’s order ready.
We got our drinks and still had to wait forever for chips and salsa. Maybe 10 minutes. Which may sound like nothing but when you’re sitting at a restaurant and the staff is unorganized to the point where they keep forgetting about the booth tables so they never come check on you, don’t give you plates or napkins and you already had to ask around when you walked into the restaurant if you could take a seat, - it absolutely is a long time.
After we got chips & placed our order (which was already 30 minutes into us being at the restaurant), we never ever got checked on again. There was probably 7 staff members on the floor and not a single one came to check on us or the tables around us that were booths or in the back of the restaurant.
By the way, our order was 1agua fresca and 1 hibiscus, 1 queso and 1 molcajete with an extra side of rice and beans.
My husband had to get up 3 times to just refill drinks and get more chips because no one would come up to us.
We were being EXTREMELY patient and after 40 minutes we still didn’t get our queso!!! We had to ask the OWNER who had to go into the kitchen and get it for us!!! She was extremely nice and apologetic saying they were understaffed but they definitely weren’t understaffed. They had more than enough people on the floor. It was the fact that there was no system, no order.
We were famished and after getting our queso (after 40 minutes and getting up ourselves AGAIN to get more chips), we still had to wait another 30 minutes with no signs of our entree coming out.
We finally decided that we were gonna pack up and pay for the drinks and queso which was when we saw the molcajete at the window. This was an hour and a half into our night at this restaurant. It was absolutely ridiculous. My husband had lost all appetite and I was so upset that we had to serve ourselves the entire experience and keep chasing after staff.
When they brought our food we still had to ask for napkins and SILVERWARE.
The food was mostly very delicious in my opinion, but I’m sorry to say that this place has the most DISGUSTING beans I’ve ever tasted in my entire life. And this is coming from someone who loves beans in every way. It was VILE. It tasted like it had shrimp/seafood paste maybe seafood bouillon and a burnt flavor to top it off.
All in all we spent nearly 2 hours at this place waiting for 2 food dishes. And our bill was $60.
In all of my time in Texas I have NEVER, EVER had such a terrible restaurant experience.
Maybe the owner was right. Maybe they’re understaffed in the KITCHEN. At one point she stayed back there getting plates out. The 3 guys in the kitchen seemed LOST the entire time I was there. Again, this place lacks SYSTEM. If they continue like this, they need to at the BARE MINIMUM put a sign that says “seat yourselves” and have a station where people can get napkins and silverware and chips.
And even if the kitchen is understaffed, there was 0 excuse for tables to not be updated and checked on with the amount of people on the floor. I’m not kidding they were all squeezed around the checkout desk and the kitchen window just standing around and waiting.
I was so unhappy with my experience. Seriously, don’t risk your night coming here, go...
Read moreWith two other Mexican food places just down the street, this place doesn’t compare. There were only 4 tables busy, 8 / 9 people working in the whole place and only one guy doing all the work. It was myself, hubby, and two adult children. We were never asked once how things were during our service. He gave what we ordered and walked away before we could ask for something like napkins, drink refills, etc. The owner was sitting at the first table with 4 others chatting and eating at 1pm. She only talked to the table behind us because she knew them. As an owner I’d want to at least say hello and ask if things are ok at least! One cook behind in the kitchen, the guy at the register left behind to sit at a little desk and eat, the other 2 or 3 were just acting like they were busy but on their phones the entire time. I like to go to places where I feel welcomed; and not like an inconvenience or just putting money in their pockets and that’s all they’re interested at. The food looked good, but had no flavor whatsoever so ever. I won’t pay the prices we paid for that food again. I ordered a Mango Margarita and didn’t get it until I almost finished my meal. It only takes one time to impress and they left my first and last experience with a bad taste in my mouth. Sadly, there is room for improvement but I highly doubt there will be. I gave Girasoles an opportunity because it says that she was a mom and her dream was to be successful and have a restaurant of her own, etc. She got her dream, but she has to work HARDER to keep it and from what I’ve seen, no wonder the parking lot always seems empty when we pass by or go to eat at the other two really good places just down the street….My honest review and I hope they improve for...
Read moreFor the past year we have passed by this hidden gem and me and the hubby finally tried los Girasoles for Valentine’s Day - they were short staffed but was still overwhelmed by the customer service Laura and Jesus gave us! It is a family restaurant, mother, son, daughter and when I say we Mexicans are the most hard working they really define that, they opened right when Covid happened and ofc Covid shut down a lot of restaurants - they are truly hard working and humble at the same time and these days that is hard to see/find, and trying to run a business. Not only will I be coming because of the hospitality they gave me and my husband but the food is truly authentic. We moved a year ago from Chicago and it is hard for me to find authentic Mexican food similar to the one back home. I tried the Girasol sampler - fajita tostada, chicken quesadilla and chicken flautas was good, have not had any flautas out here similar to the ones back home and los Girasoles is close to them👌 when Laura came to ask how the meal was I thanked her and told her it was delicious but next time I will have to try the mole enchiladas and she brought me a sample to try the mole with fresh handmade tortillas de maiz OMG the mole reminded me so much of my mom’s homemade mole but hers had a spicy kick 🤤🤤🤤🤤 (don’t tell my momma) even my husband loved her Mole and he’s not into mole. Jesus made us a mango-rita, watermelon-rita, but my favorite was the pepino-rita. If you have been doubting to come this is your sign.
Laura / Jesus - God bless your business wishing you much...
