Personally I love a good ceviche on a hot day with a cerveza. Normally I make my own. Shrimp, scallops, onions, lime juice, lemon juice, cilantro, avocado, tomato, white sea bass, jalapeno, Serrano chillie's, garlic, parsley, the rest is secret.
Although not as varied, or complex as my own I do appreciate their ceviche because they do add tomato, onion, avocado, but I also have to agree it's simplicity may turn people off and others onto. They do give you a healthy amount.
They do daily lunch specials which are the catch because they change daily, have no schedule and to me I've had my best dishes from there.
Siete Mares or the Mexican version of Italian Cioppino is great on cold days, so much depth, a hefty bounty of squid, clams, shrimp, scallops, mussels, but mostly shrimp. I can't recall what else. I find it a little too cocktail like and less soup like. Most Mexican soup's besides tortilla are heavy, such is the case here.
I wasn't a fan of their oysters. I prefer places like Shuck that specialize in them. Not that they weren't good. I just wish they plated them better, kept some brine in there, had a variety and were a tad fresher, but for the price it's hard to beat. In fact the whole place has great prices, private lot, beer and wine. It's not a bad spot to check out if you work in the area and don't feel like going to these more yuppy places...
Read moreHave no idea if I ordered the wrong dish or came on the wrong day but I came on a Saturday and they apparently don’t have fish. So I ordered shrimp ceviche, sounds simple enough, extremely bland and the sweet sauce on the side didn’t help. The salsa served with the chips was a weird tomato soupy texture so I couldn’t even eat it. The lemonade taste like cleaner and to top it off service was horrible. The guy helping me seemed like he did not want to serve me for some reason. I asked for a straw he never came back with one so I asked the lady I saw walk by and she was actually sweet and gave me a straw. The guy never came back. I walked to the front to pay and all he says is $17.81 with a disgruntled look on his face (I assume he’s annoyed that I don’t speak Spanish but look like I should, I get that quite a bit as mixed person). Anyhow overall rude overpriced bland food. Save your money and time! Not a worth while hole in...
