This review is a little different because I dont know the name of even one dish I ate. I didnt order my meal. All I have are pictures and the taste of wonderful food in my tongue and mind. Next time I will do a better job not just taking pictures but also writing down names. With that caveat, here we go.
With the help of a Korean colleague who did my ordering for me, I enjoyed an excellent vegetarian lunch at a popular Tofu Korean BBQ place in Santa Clara called Jang Su Jang. The place has a long wait. So make sure you land there ahead of time. The ambiance is very pleasant and the seating is cosy. The service was very good.
The food was fantastic. I was told what to lay off from and made my choices clear. No egg, no mushroom, no meat, no fish sauce and I still ended up with a good big lunch.
The Korean grain tea which was warm and had this earthly smell which was fantastic. The vegetarian pancake was outstanding. The main dish with veggies on a pot of hot and crunchy rice and sauce was so good, not a grain was left when I was done.
This is my second experience with Korean BBQ and with the right guide to order, the cuisine is fantastic. Strongly recommended with a Korean speaking friend/colleague.
Rating:
Ambiance: 8.5/10. Very clean and nice ambiance.

Food: 8.5/10. Loved it. Very tasty and given the amount of fresh veggies, pretty healthy too.

Restroom: N/A
Overall: 8.5/10. Every once in a while a restaurant comes along which boasts a cuisine that is not necessarily vegetarian friendly, but with the right help can end up as a feast for the taste buds. This was one of them. Strongly...
Read moreThis restaurant has the worst service I have ever received. At around 6:30 on a Saturday, the host told us that the wait would be around 30-35 minutes. We waited for over an hour for a table, and every time we asked them if they had a table, they insisted that we would be seated "very soon." We waited so long that I went to Paris Baguette to buy a pastry to eat while we waited. Jang Su Jang also refused to allow us to reserve a table in advance, claiming that "the minimum party must have four people, because the party must occupy all the seats in a table." Because we are a party of three, does that mean we have to wait an hour just because we cannot sit in four seats? Whoever runs this kind of disaster zone should be ashamed of having to be the manager of this dump. The waiting room also played K-Pop at a loud volume, which drove me further to the brink of insanity.
The service was very quick. We got our food ten minutes after we sat down. The galbi that I had was pathetic at best. A good galbi is a small bone with a square chunk of meat, and instead I received a massive bone with some flavored fat.
This restaurant now holds the title of "worst Korean food" and "longest wait time for table." It honestly baffles me as to how this place even received awards, and how people are okay with waiting an hour for some crappy Korean food. A North Korean restaurant could do better than Jang Su Jang easily. Stay away from this place, it's not...
Read moreThe Food It felt like an eternity since last time dining in at a restaurant. Wanted to get Korean food with some friends, but most outdoor seating locations seemed packed. Jang Su Jang though, was open to indoor dining at a limited capacity. It was lunch hour, so we decided to get their Tofu Soups and Bibimbap. I ordered their Seafood & Beef Soon Tofu (섞어순두부), which came with side of rice. There are also of course side dishes that came with the meal, eight (8) to be exact. I quite like the Kkakdugi (깍두기, cubed radish kimchi) and Japchae (잡채, stir fried glass noodle). The main tofu soup dish is also delicious, it goes very well with the side of rice. I like to mix a bit of tofu and soup with my rice to eat. My friend and I also enjoyed their side dishes and asked them for seconds.
The Miscellaneous Jang Su Jang is inside the Lawrence Square plaza, and there's plenty of parking space for everyone. As mentioned, the restaurant has indoor seating for limited capacity. All the staff are wearing masks and gloves for safety reasons. But they still are sincere and courteous. They have a decent sized menu selection with variety. It ranges from standalone dishes to full barbeque course meals. The prices are decent, but some items can get expensive. But the quality of the food is good with decent portions. If you are craving Korean food, you won't go wrong with...
