The restaurant definitely looks like a hidden gem - food and restaurant. The staff was nice. We just left the LA Air Show; we didn't eat anything there because all they had was your typical "county fair" type food. With that being said, we were starving so on the drive back, we had a friend search for a great place to eat in Santa Clarita before we all headed back home.
We were impressed by the variety of beers that they carried. For them to have Allagash White available and other types of alcohol was nice. Our friends' food looked like something out of a fancy restaurant - we were really impressed by the eclectic choices and selections that were available; not your typical restaurant - everything from beef, even kobe beef, to pulled pork, lamb and seafood! Pretty dope.
Our friends ordered Sweet Potato Tater Tots for an appetizer plus a Chicken and Waffle sandwich that looked delicious. Everything like I said before, looked like food out of a five star restaurant.
We decided to order the Fish and Chips and the Buffalo Chicken Wings. The Buffalo Wings were tasty - I ate two of them. The meat just fell off the bone and the sauce they doused them in was flavorful with a perfect touch of heat. They were served with a couple carrot and celery sticks and bleu cheese dip. The fish appeared to be breaded and fried in panko bread crumbs and was not the usual beer-battered planks which is a nice touch - to each their own. That's the beauty of ordering the same dish in different spots - you get to see their take on traditional foods.
I've been in the food industry for over 20 years. This place did impress me with the look of a diamond in the rough on the outside and with the food being substantially remarkable however it was not pleasant that I ended up with food poisoning from the chicken wings. This is why I rated it only one star. The food looked and tasted amazing however something was not handled properly for me to get food poisoning. What's worse is that my fiance ate the leftover wings that I took home about two hours later and he got sick right after he ate them, too so we definitely know it was the chicken wings.
Unfortunately, I will never dine here again generally because restaurants tend to keep the same bad food handling habits. I have tried to give restaurants in the past another chance when it comes to food poisoning but sadly, it never works out and I end up with the same terrible outcome. Good luck and kudos to these folks because their food and drink menus were...
Read moreUpdate: I MUST do an update! The problems I had were from a previous owner! The new owner Mike is a man of great honesty, integrity, empathy and generosity. Regardless of the fact that the problems happened as a result of the previous owner and family, Mike fully refunded my order AND rescinded the ban on my return. How admirable is that? I placed another order on the Fried Brussel Sprouts. I am very happy to report it was prepared perfectly and the customer service was wonderful, accurate and genuinely friendly. I look forward to returning often. I recommend Bricks for take out and dine in! Bon appetite.
I will never return here as long as it is owned by the current owner and has the granddaughter (or daughter, not sure which) working. I really wanted to like this place. When being impressed by the curb appeal and having read the reviews, I walked in to check the menu and when it was time for me to buy the food for a gathering of friends at a local bar (that doesn't serve food), I was exited to order from Bricks. That is when the problems started. As soon as that woman (granddaughter I think) found out the order was for the bar I got attitude. I picked up the order near closing time and apparently that was also a problem. I ordered 5 dishes, (some of them double orders), 4 fried and a salad. ALL the fried foods were over cooked. The brussel sprouts were visibly burnt on the outer 1/3 layers, tough as leather and extremely bitter just as one example. The salad was dry with a little moisture from the miniscule amount of dressing. In short I ate just the salad, spit out and threw away the inedible fried foods that were both over cooked AND slopped with grease. I spent over $60 on the meal and a $25 tip because the order was placed 45 minutes before closing.... I never got an apology or compensation. Sad, I really wanted to like this place as it has everything I like and it is my closest restaurant. I wanted this to be the restaurant I go to a few times a week. However, I was banned for receiving an inedible order. "That is FAIR?" I don't think she understands the...
Read moreWent to check it out. Great atmosphere for the most part. Walk in and stand in line ordering. I ordered the fish and chips my Fiancé ordered the wings special. So let's start with ordering. I'm an extremely approachable person. The guy behind the counter taking orders seemed like he was irritated about being there. No biggie. We all have those bad days. Still it's my 1st time here and that's not a good way to start off my first visit there ever in life. I'm a hard core Fish and Chip guy. These are not your traditional fish and chips which is totally ok. The breading was made of panko breading, bland and had no type of seasoning at all. Still browned it perfectly. Cod fish is always delicious. Frys were french frys not chips. For 14 bucks. I expect a bit more out of it. Now my Fiancé ordered wings. She loved them. I didn't try any. Unfortunately the wings tasted great but around 9 oclock my Fiancé had to PUKE them all up due to food poisoning. I had eaten one wing from the entire batch when we got home. That 1 wing was enough to give me the runs the entire night. So after visiting this place I'll have to say no for any type of 2nd visit. Pretty much a Locals joint. That's my understanding. Also a restaurant owner should never drink in front of their customers. Other than that. Don't fall for the over hype of the food. Hipster ratings of food places make it hard now a days for an honest food and service review. Again not completely terrible. My friends enjoyed their food. Just my own...
