Although my heart is with NYC Style pizza slices, second on the list is Neapolitan...My wife and I just tried a bunch of it in Naples, Italy so, although we don't claim to be experts, we have a decent sense of what it should be like. Stellenzo's does a pretty good job of giving you that experience. It's part of the new SCV Food Hub which is not really set up for dining in. (You can order from any of the restaurants all at once and bring it home, have it delivered, or eat on one of the tiny outside tables on site.)
We tried the Margherita as that's the litmus test for Neapolitan pizza for a first time at a place. Though there are 2 other vegetarian options on the menu including a pesto and a garlic. I assume you can get one of their other menu pies without meat if you want. I'd love to try a Pepe without the salami and the spicy honey looks enticing.
The Margherita looked fantastic. A nice bridge between the cooked-less pies of Naples, and our American desire to not have to eat them with forks and knives like they do there. It had the right amount of brown spots of the cheese and crust for my tastes. I thought the crust, which one could argue should be the star of a Neapolitan, was slightly more bready than I wanted it to be, especially compared to the one other spot in this part of town that does Neapolitan pies that I'd rank just above Stellenzo's.
The service was above and beyond. We ordered delivery and when there was a delay with one of the other spots in the SCV Food Hub, Stellenzo's realized this was happening, and without even being asked, made us a fresh pie so the other restaurant's delay wouldn't effect the quality of what Stellenzo's contributed to the order. That was awfully nice.
I'd...
Read moreI'll be the first one to leave a negative review. I've tried to eat here 4 times. I was successful one of those. The other 3 times they were sold out before normal dinner times (7pm-8pm). They've been apologetic, but they keep saying I need to pre-order to guarantee a pizza that night. That's a crazy thing to do for a $20 pizza. I dont want to plan a day before whether or not I'm going to eat pizza. I dont understand how they still dont have enough dough to last through the majority of dinner time, even though they've been open for over a month now. Just make more dough? Every other pizzeria in the world can figure this out. They are very much still operating like a food stall in a parking lot.
As for the pizza itself (the one time I ate it), it's alright. Above average, but not mind blowing. It's not authentic neapolitan pizza like they think it is since it's not wood fired. Pizza is small, not shareable. It's about the same quality as Pocock. It's in a tier below DeSano, Da Michele, etc... even though it costs more than...
Read moreThere are no words in any language that can truly capture just how much I enjoyed this pizza. Those days when you get off work and wanna enjoy a nice pie, you try Toppers or Pizza Hut, and sure, they're not bad. But then you take a bite out of Stellenzo's pizza, and you're like WOOOAAAAH. You have not truly lived until you have had a slice from Stelenzo. The day I took my first bite of Stellenzo's, I was reborn. Baptized by the cheesy goodness that graced my taste buds. Stellenzos has brought me smiles and fond memories that I shall cherish forever. Not only that, but Stellenzo's pizza helped me mend my falling out with my goldfish Bob. There is no other pizza on the market like Stellenzo's. Thank you for changing my life Stellenzo's and may your reign of cheesy goodness...
