Decided to stop here on a Sunday morning around 10 at my wife’s suggestion.
What I really liked about this place is that it is unique and definitely has a personal touch. The owner was friendly and attentive, and made our drinks and food personally. The overall decor and feel of the place have a lot of personality.
The food was very good; our cheese and guava pastry was light and flaky and superbly balanced. I loved that she warmed it up for us without us having to ask. Our cubano was hot and crispy with ample delicious melted cheese and a nice balance; i did find something in it a bit sweet - likely the pickles.
Our coffee was good but the execution needed a little work. They came out a little lukewarm and felt like they could have been made with more care and attention.
The prices were very reasonable. The decor and music were burning man esque.
It was a bit loud for me. Both the music and the fact that initially the owner and a regular were having a loud and long conversation from over the bar to the customers table. While I can empathize with the likely reasons behind this, as a customer I would have preferred otherwise.
The door was open on a coolish and rainy day; as a business owner I get it, but as a customer I don’t care for the door to be open on a cold day at all. It really reduces the comfort level for me.
Overall I wish Mariposa well, and applaud their efforts as an independent business offering something good, creative,...
Read moreMaripose Coffee Bar is such a special gem to have here in Santa Cruz. Their fusion of Cuban and Vietnamese culture, recipes, and vibes elevate this place to a whole other level. You can just feel the love that’s put into everything they do. Watching this start as a little pop up and turn into the dreamy, peaceful, community full place it is today has been such a wonderful journey to be apart of. After living in Miami for a few years I was so sad to leave behind the Cuban coffee culture. I am so grateful to now be able to walk downtown and get my fix ! Cuban coffee is so special and I wish people would take more time to learn what it actually is. The staff at mariposa is very knowledgeable and always crafting these special coffees to perfection. I love all the new things they come out with and am always so excited to try them. Don’t even get me started on the food ! Ever since I had my first spring roll I was hooked ! All the ingredients are so fresh and seem to be made to order. Nothings premade and sitting around all day. Mariposa coffee bar reminds me to relax, take a breather, and just be in the moment. It’s always one of my more favorite parts of the week to walk and see all their friendly faces and get my coffee fix ! Thank you for all that you bring and do for this community! Emoji and I will always be your...
Read moreI loved the place, the atmosphere was great and accord to the person at the counter, I assume an owner, it is all hand decorated. The jokes on the menu were funny to. Almost everything up untill were had to leave because of an emergency it was great, but, I 100% understand the struggles of trying to run a business as a minority, as I myself am a trans autistic disabled man, and my partner whom is also a trans man who is Hispanic. Please don't assume thing about people. You were not lied to, our friend tried to harm themselves around an hour later. Just because you didn't know the situation doesn't mean you should be rude when all we were was polite. Also from what I could tell, none of your food was sensory safe, I could tell it was traditional and that is awesome, but I wouldn't have been able to eat anything anyways.
Please do go to this cafe, other then the comments it's a lovely place, and I do believe people can just...
