Read moreI have been visiting the restaurant quite often ever since posting my older review(below) and since the place passed onto new management.
I have to say the quality of the food has improved by leaps and bounds. It is now a great place for a no frills Indian comfort food experience.
Since I work at UCSC, I automatically get a college discount upon request at the counter (this will not work through Grubhub or any other food delivery service). You would need to dine at the restaurant or pick up the food yourself.
I also think their current $14 lunch buffet (after UCSC discount) is a steal compared to other food options in downtown Santa Cruz. I would also say it’s the best Indian buffet experience on this side of the Hill (Monterey Bay Area) . Next place you would need to do is San Jose.

Side note: They do not include rice in the entrees . You will have to separately...
Read moreI recently visited Royal Taj India Cuisine with high hopes of enjoying a flavorful Indian meal, but I left utterly disappointed. First and foremost, the food was bland and lacked any semblance of authentic Indian flavors. The buffet, which was supposed to offer a wide selection, had only seven items, and to make matters worse, crucial dishes like tandoori chicken and meat items were missing entirely. Adding insult to injury, the price per person was a staggering $17.95 which is exorbitant considering the limited and lackluster options available. What's more, the restaurant failed to even advertise this steep price, leaving me feeling deceived and overcharged. The audacity of the restaurant to ask for a tip was astounding, given the subpar quality of the food and ambience. Speaking of which, the ambience was another letdown, as it was far from inviting. The cleanliness of the establishment was also questionable, further diminishing the overall dining experience. I regret spending my money and time at Royal Taj India Cuisine and I strongly advise others to steer clear unless significant...
