I should be giving less than a 2, however, some of their food is good. I have given this place 4 tries now to see if it gets any better and it is just no good. Their food is decent, but definitely nothing to rave about and their service is terrible! It is sometimes mediocre, but last night was even worse than usual. Not friendly, walking away before we are done talking to the server, and at 2 different points in the night we couldn't find our server and had to ask someone else to get her for us. There were tons of servers walking around and the place was definitely not full so I'm not even going to give them a benefit of the doubt and say that they were just really busy. This was a Monday night. Then they added gratuity, so I guess there is no reason to have good service if they are getting their % either way. I am always disappointed when I go here and I will not try it again. No matter how good the food is at a place, we need to have the experience with it. Don't waste your time or money. There is a reason that it is less expensive than a lot of other sushi places. You get what you pay for. Spend the extra money and go somewhere that treats you right.

We ordered via telephone with the intention of picking up our order. The nice woman said our order would be ready in 45 minutes. When we arrived in 50 minutes it was not ready. We were told it's not ready. Long story short, we came back 3 times and finally got our order after 2 hours. It was apparent orders were not being completed in the order in which they were received. If you didn't take a table, your order will be kicked to the curb. Another to-go group also had an extended wait time. They said they talked to the manager and received a $20 gift card. Based on my observations of the manager and hostess, I'm certain the manager knew about my situation. When I expressed my frustration to the nice hostess lady, she suggested I speak to the manager who was eyeing me from the bar but did not take the initiative to walk over to a disadvantaged customer. I declined to approach the manager because the thought of a gift card to an establishment that I have no urge to return to did not appeal to me. I pre-paid during the wait on a $100 bill with a 20% tip. Note to self: Don't tip until the full experience is fully realized.

We went with a group of seven. Easy to get a table since we called a bit ahead of time and the weather was wet. We ordered the big sashimi platter $140. It had a bit of everything, mostly salmon and tuna. Calamari, octopus, lovely sashimi wrapped up in cucumber, mackerel, little cucumber cups filled with tobiko. We enjoyed 6 or 7 rolls, all different, all good. Ended dinner with green tea ice cream and tempura banana w/ vanilla ice cream. Plenty of sake and tea. The server was attentive but not too much. We all had a good time. I recommend visiting Mobo, I will be back. Well I went back with some friends. Last week. It was good again. Same kind of dinner as last time. Large sashimi boat, some rolls, sake n beer. The sashimi boat is not the cruise liner it was last time, same price, maybe a "sloop" now (photo 3). It was still pretty good though. We shared some rolls, they are smaller than last time too. We all had some of it. Service was ok, we had to ask for a second soy sauce and napkins for the table. Prices are up, portions are down, no surprise there. Probably go back.

For starters the reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because I've really liked Mobo in the past. Enough to plan my birthday dinner to be there last night.

That was a horrible idea, we got the worst service I've ever had. ANYWHERE.

Origionally we told the hostess we were a group of six. About 5 mintues later I told her the other two people weren't able to make it so it will just be the 4 of us. She replied with they are working on the table and walked away, never changed 6 to 4 on their wait list.

We then proceeded to watch them sit two tables of four (all of which showed up AFTER us). My fiance again mentioned to all 3 hostesses that we are a table of 4 not six. A few minutes later (it's already been over 30 minutes) a hostess says teh table is almost ready. About 10 minutes later she realizes the table she just offered us was for 6 so we had to wait another 15-20 minutes to finally get seated (my stupid stubborness for needing Mobo for my birthday).

We already knew what we wanted but the waitress didn't show up for 10 minutes to take our order.

We then waited ANOTHER 30 minutes for our food.

During that time I went and found the owner to complain, he apologized and said he would check on it. Eventually we got our food (minus our fiancee's). His food didn't show up until everyone else was done eating. I told this again to the owner and how I normally really like the place.

We finish eating and ask for the check. He never offered to comp anything or do anything to make it up to us (oh and by the way, they were told it was my bday and did nothing).

Needless to say, we left no tip at all and will never be back.

Well maybe I'll try to slip in for a free sake bomb one friday or saturday night but they will never get a...

We have been life long residents of Santa Cruz County and have frequented Mobo’s since the early 1990’s. Back then it was a hoppin sushi place with dynamic new rolls and excellent service.

Took my young adult kids and husband there tonight and was astonished by the mediocre vibe. We were seated and immediately were approached by the server asking for drinks and app orders (we had not even fully sat down). We asked for more time and were quickly forgotten by her (older woman). We eventually ordered the $85/30 pc sashimi plate, 5 rolls and 1 beef teriyaki hot box.

The sashimi was thin cut and seemed to be sub par fish in that it had a fishy flavor and was falling into small pieces. It was mediocre and not worth the 85$. The rolls were very very small compared to typical restaurant rolls and had a blah taste profile that was at times overwhelmed with supermarket teriyaki sauce flavor (pink caddy roll). The other rolls (tsunami deviation and another that I can’t remember the name of) were edible but that is all.

I did notice that none of the long term staff, both chefs and servers, were nowhere to be seen.

For a total food bill, with no alcohol, of $218 (4 people), I should have just postponed the dinner to a night when Rumble Fish in Scotts Valley was open. Mobo’s could learn a lot from Luna, the owner of RF, about portions, presentation and customer service.

I’ll be surprised if Mobo’s is open in...

Overall this place sucked! The manager completely embarrassed us in front of other customers making it completely uncomfortable and had a completely confrontational attitude the whole time we talked to him. I do not recommend going here. The food was poor the Nor Cal was a little cold when it got to the table the popcorn shrimp were very dry. My boyfriends wrap tasted like old ingredients with no flavor and no fresh crisp vegetable crunch. We requested to send it back and the waitress brought over the manager. My boyfriend then continued to inform the manager of his dislike and asked if he could switch out his dish. Please note ( the misso soup was very bad, no flavor, cold broth.) My boyfriend calmly asked if he could not pay for the disliked dish and please get a new one. The manager instantly said no and informed of us how bad his buiness was doing and that he already had to raise the prices of food. He also said if you dont pay for it "I will call police" while talking loudly and swinging his arms up and down. The argument continued for about another twenty minutes. Never go here, worst service of my life, the manager is completely confrontational and cant have a civil disagreement without outrageous threats over a simple request. The manager seems to forget without good paying customers he wouldn't have a buisness to run and should treat them with respec and care...
