Mariscos Sol Y Mar — Restaurant in Santa Fe Springs

Stopped by for lunch and had our dog, so they gave us the option to sit outside. It was a cool gesture because although they had a tent, it was not set up for lunch as the crowd was pretty small. Given we were outside the service was excellent as she checked on us often and the food was out quickly.

Food was very good. We were in the mood for cocteles but my favorite mariscos place in Pico was closed (El Oasis) due to a fire so looked up Yelp for the next best option and here we are. We ordered a large pulpo cocktail and a large campechana with 3 oysters. The freshness and flavors were there with the option to add ketchup if you want a sweeter broth or hot sauce for those who like it spicy.

Why not 5 stars? When it comes to cocktails, there are at least two other options that I prefer within a couple of miles. Mariscos El Oaisis and El Paisa. Oasis’ broth is already perfect and doesn’t need much more than tapatio from me. El Paisa has a basic broth to doctor up as well, but has a peppery base which I love. Paisa also includes oysters in their campechana and doesn’t charge extra.

Don’t get me wrong, for the price (even with extra for oysters) it was a huge and well worth the price. Also with the addition of ketchup and tapatio, tasted really good.

Some other pluses are that they give you free chips and salsa as well as both crackers and chips for the cocktails. I hate to choose.

Plan to be back next time in the neighborhood and give some other options a try as they have a pretty large...

First of all, the service was good (polite-wise) , but, I got my food after a 20 minute wait, my siblings got theirs 5-6 minutes before I got mine. I ordered fish tacos, those were good. My brother told me that there was an eyelash on his plate… he did not want to tell the waitress because he wanted to enjoy his food so when I went to pay, I let them know about the eyelash. Once I told the waitress, she said that we should have let them know sooner and thats true but she then said that it’s something they can’t control. I did not want to fight but I would have said to check the plate before putting the burrito on the plate (the eyelash was under the burrito). She then proceeded to charge me the same price. I would have liked a small discount or at least an apology but it did not happen. That’s why I’m giving a 3 star.

Very good food with good service. When they sit you down at a table they always offer you complimentary chips & salsa. The side dishes like beans/rice are usually fresh and main dishes are very good. If you are looking for a place that doesn't over price too much then this spot is a good value for your money as well. More example of this is their Tuesday thru Fridays specials you can get a whole Tilapia fish meal (see supplied pic) for just $9.99. And they have daily breakfast plates that start are $8.99 which I believe is all day. Their Huevos Rancheros (Mexican Ranch Style Eggs) are very good.
