O'Briens Irish Pub — Restaurant in Santa Monica

One owner's comment gave the impression that he is an arrogant person. We walked in and ordered 1 beer each + some appetizers as starters. We had not finished our beers and appetizers when more of our friends joined us, so we asked for a bigger table. The owner then said "you have to order more..." he said that in front of everyone.

You could imagine the embarrassment we felt thanks to his arrogant comment. For that reason we all decided that we were going to order a minimum of 1 plate + 1 drink and not give this arrogant owner more than what he asked for... Some of our friends order water. Yes, we went for water in an Irish pub...

In the end, the owner was able to get a decent amount, but he could have gotten more if he had not opened his mouth.

The food was average. The beer variety is pitiful considering it is an Irish bar. If you plan on going to this bar during a sport event, you will be better off if you stay at home and on the comfort of you sofa. The place has very bad TV positioning and the reason is because the pub is so small. Be prepare to have a stiff neck.

The TV screen sizes are mediocre. The average TV size in a house is 55". If you have a 55" TV screen like I do, then you will be better off if you stay at home and watch the sport event on your 55" TV screen and all that while you are on the comfort of your sofa.

EDIT: For the owner, if you really wish to know, it took me about 10 min to write the review. However, the question that you should be asking is not "how long did it take you to write the review?" The question that you should be asking is "What can I do to improve customer satisfaction?" And as a minimum you should offer a standard apology even if it is not genuine.

Instead of doing that, you find this review funny and you wonder how long it took me to write the review. This just corroborates how arrogant the owner is.

Fantastic sports bar especially for NY sports fans. Great atmosphere! Staff was super friendly and welcoming. It was a busy night due to the World Series and the staff was on it! The owner and several bartenders/waiters were working their butts off with a smile. Price of all food/drinks is on par for being located in Santa Monica, $10/beer…$17 and up for a burger with fries…$20 and up for a hearty Irish meal. However, the prices of the appetizers are a couple dollars more than normal. At first I thought the portions of the appetizers must be huge to match their price, $16 for mozzarella sticks, $18 for potato skins. A little pricey, but for $16 there’s gotta be about 8 sticks and the thick juicy ones, right? Nope, 6 itty bitty grocery store frozen bag sticks. Pic attached. That’s $2.67/stick pre tax! Luckily the trivia host gave out $20s at the end, so that made up for the sad itty bitty sticks. For the potato skins, they were great, but maybe knock $4 off or make it 6 skins ($3/skin)? Knock $4 off those sad itty bitty mozzarella sticks, too, or give 8 per order and make ‘em those thick juicy sorta...

Just now, a man very persistently harassed me and tried to sell me cocaine and heroin out of a backpack after I told him to leave me alone for about 15 minutes. He then went to try and sell drugs to two other girls who were also uninterested and pretty obviously uncomfortable, so I told a member of the staff (Hispanic male, I wish I got his name) whose only reply was, "Well, he's a regular."

I asked if he was concerned that he could personally get in trouble for allowing somebody to sell drugs at his place of employment, and he wasn't. When I asked for the owner, he said he'd be sure to tell the owner (who according to the staff member wasn't at the bar at that time) that it was an issue the next time he saw him.

Oh, and the service isn't exceptional. Neither is the food. Guinness was pretty flat, too. These were all things I decided before the wait staff was not phased by the guy harassing women and selling coke & heroin on...
