I write for a music and coffee blog called Crooners In Coffeeshops, in which I interview local musicians at local coffeeshops. My writeup reflects the positive experience that I encountered at Primo Passo Coffee on our interview date.
Family-owned Primo Passo Coffee is located in the cutest part of Santa Monica, where it’s just close enough to get your tan on at the beach or get your shop on at the Third Street Promenade. Fun sized coffee and teas, an assortment of pastries and sandwiches, and a relaxingly pleasant overall atmosphere are all you need to choose Primo over the Starbucks across the street. My little Carmelo was the daintiest and perfect post-hangover pick me up, and even just sitting in the shop uplifted my mood in an instant. And if you’re a fan of Instagram-ing your coffee sesh, their baristas will do latte art for every order!
Right when you walk into Primo Passo Coffee, you will be greeted with friendly smiles, the aroma of fresh roasted coffee, and warm sun shining through large, perfectly placed windows. Seating options ranging from bistro style tables to barstools to plush benches along the wall, any sized party can come in and enjoy a quick (or long) caffeine pick-me-up. I especially noticed that a lot of people come here to read or write (even on a collaboration aspect), so maybe one day we’ll learn that the next great novelist or screenwriter came here to work on their...
Read moreI recently visited Primo Passo Coffee on Montana Ave in Santa Monica and unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with my experience. While the coffee itself was decent, there were a few issues that detracted from my visit.
First and foremost, I was surprised to learn that Primo Passo Coffee does not provide wifi for customers. As someone who enjoys working remotely, this was a major drawback for me and made my time there less productive than I had hoped.
Additionally, I found the prices to be slightly overpriced for what was offered. While I understand that Montana Ave is a pricey location, I was disappointed to see that my coffee and pastry came at a premium cost.
Lastly, I found the atmosphere to be lacking. The space felt cramped and not very inviting, and the seating options were limited.
Overall, while the coffee itself was decent, the lack of wifi, overpriced items, and subpar atmosphere made for a less-than-stellar experience. For these reasons, I cannot give Primo Passo Coffee on Montana Ave in Santa Monica more...

Primo Passo Coffee Co. is a nice corner coffee shop in Montana Avenue, at 7th Street Santa Monica. Their business hours are Mon-Sun: 6:30am-6pm; it’s perfect for early riser folks like myself.
In addition to coffee, PPCC offer teas and pastries, mugs, coffee bags, merch, making it a popular spot for locals and visitors to enjoy a relaxing day. Its interior decor has a minimalist style with plenty of natural light from their large glass windows. Similarly, their front out door has good street view.
I came here on a late afternoon Monday and was greeted by a male staff. I quickly perused their menu and ordered a Nitro Cold Brew. I liked it. Atmosphere was very chill. Prices were tariff fair. Staff were nice and competent. Service was exceptional.
Overall, PPC is a nice local coffee shop that opens early morning and offers good coffee products. I highly...
