The parking sign in the back says that businesses will validate. But you weirdly have to pay first. The waiter did not know how to validate; he gave me a QR code and told me he didn't know how it worked. (That may or may not be his or the business owner's fault). It was $12 for 1.5 hours, which is kinda steep. He flippantly apologized for the situation and took my kid's $4 ice cream off the bill, and acted as if he was a hero. He should have at least called his boss to figure out the process. I only tipped him 15%. Many would have stiffed him. I know--I've waited tables before. Had he taken $12 off the bill, I would have been totally satisfied and tipped him handsomely.
I got back to my car and there was a ticket there anyways! For $88.50! (Or $52 if I pay in 5 days). (I've attached both pics). I went back in to discuss this with the waiter--the owners were not present--and told him that I want his owners to deal with the issue. I was pissed. He was pissed at me because I only tipped him 15%. He told me that it wasn't his owner's problem and that he was doing me "a solid" by relaying the information. I told him that it may not be their fault, but it was their problem. It was going to affect their business. It was going to affect his tips. He said that the owner's have no power. I argued that, collectively, the owner's of the businesses in the building have considerable leverage over the building owner, particularly because Santa Monica businesses are leaving left and right. Tenants are completely in control right now. Vacancies are everywhere.
Just a terribly disappointing experience for a place that I used to like.
I won't be back. But I do hope this helps the business learn something as I don't want to see more restaurants crumble...
Read moreRudest service I’ve ever experienced!!!!! Waiter was mean and entitled! I do NOT recommend eating here. FYI, Employees make great tips when they treat loyal customers with respect/kindness. Last I checked gratuity was optional at this restaurant, and when it is witheld, clearly that is because of a grand LAPSE of CUSTOMER SERVICE. The waiter 1) forgot my order and 2) overcharged me because he failed to honor the advertised special, 3) was too lazy to correct his error when I politely let him know. 4) was blatantly rude and dismissive when I talked to him 5) did not treat me with equal attention because my tab was smaller than others...Then he had the audacity to follow me out to the parking lot like a stalker,—in a way that was very unprofessional and confrontational—to ask me why I did not tip him!???? When I informed him that he was rude and that that is why I did not tip him, he told me not to come back. He said he refused to serve a customer that does not tip him and that I wasn’t welcome there anymore. FYI, I tip everyone else who works there very generously (as a frequent customer for the last four years) because they aren’t RUDE or CREEPY! It’s bad for business to tell loyal customers not to return when the problem is a direct result of ONE employee’s rudeness and service errors. I’m telling all my friends at UCLA never to eat here. So rude ! Never bringing the kids I babysit to...
Read moreRock N Pies brazenly flouts the LA County COVID-19 restrictions that have been in place for months.
I've been in their restaurant three times to pick up pies. Each time I came in, the employees weren't wearing masks while talking to unmasked customers at the bar (~6 inches between them) and there were several groups dining unmasked inside the restaurant, at a time when indoor dining is not permitted in LA County. Only when I walked up to the counter and the employees saw I was masked did they put their masks (bandanas and gaiters) on, and then removed them as I turned to leave. And as I left on one occasion, two unmasked people were yelling across the restaurant to talk to each other, which I had to walk through to exit.
It would be bad enough if this were a one-time transgression. But to go in there on 3 separate occasions and see the disregard for their customers' safety during a pandemic whose infection rates have been rising in LA, is unacceptable.
The pizza is pretty good, so the COVID carelessness is a bummer. If basic COVID protocols aren't followed in the restaurant in full view of diners, it's scary to imagine what it looks like in the kitchen. Won't be going back, feels like too...
