Visiting Mission BBQ in Sarasota, Florida, as a Texan with high standards for brisket and barbecue, I was prepared for a tough critique. However, Mission BBQ not only met but exceeded my expectations, making it a must-visit destination for any BBQ aficionado. The ambiance of the place immediately sets a patriotic tone, with decor that honors those who serve and have served our country, creating an atmosphere that is both inviting and respectful.

The star of the show, without a doubt, is the food. The brisket, which is often considered a true test of a barbecue joint's mettle, was nothing short of spectacular. It had a perfect bark on the outside, was tender and juicy on the inside, and packed with smoky flavor that could easily rival (if not surpass) what I've tasted in Texas. This is no small feat, considering Texas' reputation for high-quality barbecue.

Beyond the brisket, every item on the menu seemed to be crafted with care and expertise. The ribs fell off the bone, the pulled pork was moist and flavorful, and the sides were a delightful complement to the meats. The mac and cheese and collard greens, in particular, stood out for their homemade taste and perfect seasoning.

The staff at Mission BBQ added to the experience with their friendly and attentive service, making you feel like a valued guest from the moment you walk in. Their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is evident in every interaction.

In conclusion, Mission BBQ in Sarasota is an exceptional find that transcends regional BBQ loyalties. It offers a culinary experience that rivals the best of Texas barbecue and is a testament to the universal appeal of well-cooked meats and hearty sides. Whether you're a barbecue purist or just looking for a delicious meal, Mission BBQ is a destination...

If you’re a foodie like us we appreciate a place that takes you back in time. Back to when service was great, the food taste like it did way back when and the atmosphere is juuuuuust right. My family ate here today and it was delicious! We ordered the ribs, my husband said they were a 9/10, I got the 2 meat meal, brisket and pulled pork, 10/10 it was tender, moist, yummy smoked favor, and my favorite there’s 7 sauces to choose from. All of them are tasty but my favorite was the Texas Twang & The smoky mountain sauce. We got the first time special which comes to your table with all of the sides in sample sizes, I will rank them to my preferences but know everyone of them was delicious you can’t go wrong! My favorite side would be the Mac and cheese 10/10, Potato salad 10/10 it has a Dijon mustard base, so good.., collard greens fresh and very good flavor, baked beans w/ brisket, cold slaw was very good crisp and juicy mmm, and last but NOT least the bacon green beans. This place is a southern girls dream. Genuinely you can’t go wrong with anything at this place. It’s all so good. Now before I end this review, I can’t not mention the dessert, we got the strawberry short cake and the banana pudding. Y’all when you eat something and it reminds you of your childhood, I mean cmon, put a price on that. This banana pudding reminded me of my Aunt Pam’s banana pudding that we would ask for every family gathering! Fresh banana, creamy & light fluffy banana pudding. Scrumptious!! Chefs kiss. All of the food is made fresh daily!

Just to put the cherry on top, they also give back to the local community, service workers and our VETS! You can feel good about spending your money here.

10/10 you will eat too much & want...

I love BBQ, but who doesn't, right? After moving from Ohio to Florida I thought I would experience some great BBQ. I was used to places like Montgomery Inn and City BBQ. It just seemed like BBQ in my little corner of Florida was hit and miss until I discovered Mission BBQ.

I've seen a few here and there but never ventured inside until today.

Wow, was I surprised.

First of all, when you walk in everyone greets you as you enter the restaurant. Second, you see the love they show for our country's military services and our first responders.

We ordered three different.

I had a turkey sandwich with baked beans w/brisket, my mother ordered the brisket sandwich with a salad, and my father ordered the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans w/brisket.

At the table you will find six different sauces (all extremely amazing).

As I was trying all the sauces out Michael, the manager, came out to greet us. He brought out what they call an Alabama white sauce, which is a horseradish sauce, paired particularly well with the turkey.

Michael is an amazing guy. He talked with us for awhile and gave us some great recommendations.

All the sides were really good. I loved the backed beans and the green beans with bacon (who doesn't like bacon?). My mother also like the green beans and my father loved the collard greens.

The desserts were also amazing. We shared a cup of the banana pudding and sweet potato pie.

We're definitely going back. And we are going to be able to place a photo of my grandfather up on the wall to commemorative his time in the service.

Check out those photos. I mean, they look good, but you can't taste those amazing flavors unless you actually go to a...

Stopped in for dinner and man, and I am glad we did. This was my first trip to Mission BBQ and will not be my last. So my visit began with avery at the front counter explaining everything to me that is on the menu. We made our selections, and then the magic began. While eating, we were approached by Jamie, who asked us how the meal was. After telling her it was exquisite, we told her it was our first trip. Jamie went behind the counter and made samples of all of the sides that we did not purchase so that we could try them all. She told us about the sauces and how to mox them for certain flavors, which were AMAZING! She was not finished there. Jamie gave us time to finish and then brought out samples of the desserts to try, which again were awesome. And then lastly, when I told her I was retired LE, she brought out a card to join the hometown club. When we were leaving, we were also approached by Manager Mike, who again gave us a few samples and thanked us for stopping in. This was not simply dinner ,this was a dining experience, and I am so glad we stopped by. The food was stellar. The BBQ was super tender, the sides were all very good, and the cornbread was just like mom used to make, and to top it off was fantastic lemonaid. If you're craving amazing bbq, then please stop in here. You won't regret it, and when you do tell Jamie and Mike you read about them. They are both assets to this location. This restaurant gets an A+ and I will be back many more times. Thanks Jamie and Mike!!

Updated review 6/2/24. We went for a late lunch around 2 on Sunday. Many of the empty tables were dirty. I believe there were 6 people visible in the kitchen area but there weren't many people waiting on food. Ordering was slow but steady, with orders every 5-10 min while we were there. I had pulled pork and it was dry. I actually choked on my first bite as I couldn't swallow without taking a drink. My mom had half a smoked chicken and it had so much rub/smoke the skin was dark grey and she said it was very vinegary. Stepdad had pulled pork, pulled chicken and ribs. Meat was falling off the ribs, but the pulled pork and chicken were dry. Removed a star for service (dirty tables), and removed star from food and overall rating. We might ho back one more time closer to dinner and see if it was bad luck we came after normal lunch hour. Original review 3/16/24. The food was very good. Pulled pork was moist and juicy, good with and without sauce. Baked beans were very heavy with BBQ sauce, so much that it was all I tasted. The chunks of brisket in it were very nice. Slaw was a good counterpoint. Cornbread was very dry, so I wasn't tempted to eat it by itself. However, it was a perfect palate cleanser. Only wish beans were not so heavily sauced. My mom really enjoyed her half chicken, and another person enjoyed the brisket. Everyone was happy with their sides.
