I cannot rave enough about this little Downtown Sarasota gem, and their packed reservation book shows you Sarasota agrees (so make sure you grab a reservation and call ahead!).

There's not a bad item on the menu, but standout dishes that I tried were: German Schnitzel (get the Jäger sauce!!), their pork hock special on Friday, the currywurst, and the Dusseldorfer.

The German schnitzel is loved by all. Battered and light, make sure you get that jager sauce and don't forget the lemon. I love to order mine with the cucumber salad and pan fried potatoes. I believe they also offer chicken and veal schnitzel -- so it is customizable to your meat preferences. I dream of this schnitzel.

The pork hock (HAXE!) special on Fridays is worth booking a table for alone. Get under the cute lights in the biergarden and chow down. It was a pork hock that has a crunchy, crispy exterior and a soft, juice meaty center -- served on a bed of mashed potatoes, bacon, and sauerkraut. Yep. Just say yes to it! Another special I love and have no words to communicate it's amazingness: sometimes on Thursdays they have a pork burger on a pretzel bun. I cannot even begin to tell you what is on there, I just know they must lace it with my favorite things because my mouth is watering writing this now.

The currywurst is a fun one. I was new to the curry-tomato based sauce and once I tried it, I wanted to drink it from the plate. Oops. They offer up bratwurst or andouille sausage with the fries -- I picked andouille for more spice! 10/10, this is my favorite go-to now.

And last but not least, the Dusseldorfer. A NY strip steak encrusted in mustard from their hometown with a side of pan fried potatoes and a appetizer salad so you can trick your stomach into thinking you're being healthy (you are! steak is PROTEIN!)

All in all, the food is wonderful and the staff matches that level of excellence. They are shockingly fantastic at remembering faces and names and are super personable. One day they ran out of my favorite Apfelwein and the server came up with my new favorite concoction: their house white blend with some applejuice.

The owners are a young German couple that came to Florida to make their mark in this small town. The chef/owner used to visit when he was younger, and you can feel that small business pride & love that is often missed in these days. The quality of everything is super fresh -- I learned they source the freshest ingredients daily so you get the same experience every time.

Don't forget to ask about their latest desserts before you leave. Your stomach and sweet tooth will thank you! I learned they have an authentic baker prep all their bread and desserts, so they continue that small business love down to...

They were all impressed by the food and service. It’s always a pleasure and they all raved about the delicious food, friendly service and reasonable prices.one even had a German background and loved it.He said it tasted like his german grandma’s food. We’ll be back soon Fred

Everyone was so friendly and we got to talk to the owner too.told him how hard it is to find a real authentic wiener schnitzel and sauerbraten and that we love it here.Absolutley authentic, fresh and special. Wish I would live here all year around just to be able to dine here..we felt so appreciated

Best hidden gem in town! Once you walk in, you feel as though you’re an old friend being greeted for dinner. The cozy home setting adds to the appeal, along with their warm & hospitable personalities. The food is amazing and authentic (the potato pancakes are my fav with the applesauce). The beer is, also, everything. I never have hangovers because of how filtered and pure German beer is!! It’s so clean and everything American beer should be & more. I now live here now (essentially, or so it feels) & come in a few times a week. I am so so happy this place exists. You can tell Rene and Kim (the owners) put their whole heart ‘n soul in this place. The photos on the walls are of their hometown and they light up when you inquire about it. I love hearing all of their stories. Piwo (the chef) really loves sharing his gift, you can tell by how beautifully presented the food is on your plate (and the taste can definitely speak for itself.) The atmosphere is full of life and comfort - as well as the guests who seem to walk in the door. It’s like coming home after a really long, hard day while having a warm meal fill you up, beer to wash away your sorrows and the staff who knows how to make you laugh, feel loved and feel a part of something. It’s a real special,...

Ate here last night for dinner and came back tonight for a second round. It's that good! Let me preface this by saying that I've lived and studied in Germany (Düsseldorf) and my work took me there (pre-pandemic) for about eight weeks per year. I've dined at some of the finest restaurants in every corner of the country! Owners Kim and Rene are true gems and they have brought their Omas' recipes from the Rheinland to Sarasota! Simply put: their food is not only some of the best German food I've had outside of Germany, it's also some of the best I've had, full stop. The Rostsenfbraten is lovely and a rare find: think a 10 oz. steak, cooked how you want it, topped with a German mustard crust. The Rotkohl (red cabbage) is some of the best I've had! Be sure to order it with the Spätzle and mix the two together! The Currywurst is authentic as you can you get it. The Altbier is the best I've had outside of Düsseldorf, brewed locally by the Naughty Monk Brewery. If you're craving some Gemütlichkeit und die köstliche deutsche Küche then look no further! Can't wait to return to try their 3-week-long marinated Sauerbraten! Prost und zum Wohl!
