I've heard rave reviews from friends about this restaurant perched close to the east-side of Lake Michigan in Saugatuck, and decided to take a long drive from Detroit, Michigan to have lunch. I'm actually visiting from Texas, and was here with four friends last weekend.
This quaint and beautiful venue was truly a delightful gem. I love everything about it - the friendly atmosphere, the decor, the surroundings, and the table/chair setting, made me feel like I was at home having a meal with family. But the best of it all was the food. I especially love the creativity of the Chef on putting together such an interesting and eclectic menu with great fusions of several international cuisines. From the Short Rib Hummus to the Seared Tuna, from the Beet Salad to the Market Vegetables, from the Korean Macaroni & Cheese to the popular Fish & Chips, the cleverly pairing/mixing of different flavors were amazing! The burst of scrumptiousness in my mouth was beyond words! Believe me, I did try all the dishes mentioned above plus a few others as well. Having lunch with four friends had it's benefits. Everything we ordered tasted fantastic!
Give DUCK ALLEY a try when you are close to the area. I highly recommend it and you will not be disappointed. In fact, I'm sure you will thank yourself for stopping in to have a meal. I will surely return for another visit when I'm in town. Hopefully, it'll be soon. Thanks for such a wonderful...
Read moreNormally if the food is bad, I wouldnât give them a one star because it would be too extreme. However, the servers were extremely rude so they deserved this one star. First of all, we walked in asking to sit in bar area. Server was unhappy that we sat at a table in the bar area instead of at the bar. She rolled her eyes on us. Then we ordered two appetizers: short ribs and carrots. Short ribs tasted like microwave left over meat, and carrots were under cook. Cherry on top was: we were rushed to order our main meal before the appetizer was served. When we said we were not ready. Waiter walked to the kitchen, with kitchen door wild open, and made fun of us with other people in the Kitchen. After that, server came back again asking us to order our food because the kitchen will close in 15 minutes. It was 7PM. We decided we should leave this place, I was going to order duck fried rice but I didnât want to spend $50 more here anymore. Server came back and claimed she didnât mean to rush us, they just wanted to close at 8 PM on a Halloween. Later we walked by at 9PM and realized they lied to us because they were still open and there were costumers eating there. Overall, spend your money somewhere else. It is completely okay to tell us not to come in because you want to close early in the first place. No...
Read moreStarted things with a hazy IPA and sipped on it during the meal. We got bread with housemade Boursin which was an incredibly garlicy cheese that we even got another one of them. The bread was also for the duck liver mousse that we got, it smooth and really enjoyed the pairings that accompanied it. The feta and olives were delicious, and for the next round we indulged in this INSANE Hot Crab and Lobster Dip. The seafood portion was generous, and the cheese was so melty, I have to say that was my favorite thing I tried that evening, no question. The short rib hummus was also good, I loved the earthy taste of the hummus. The duck wings we tried were good, but I thought the harissa sauce was too hot to enjoy the actual flavor of the wings. I would get them naked next time. But thankfully, the duck fried rice came in to save the day with the confit duck and you can really taste the fatty and salty duck, it was unreal. Do not sleep on the fried mushrooms, the quack sauce they have is really all that, another favorite of mine. The market vegetables were roasted nicely and light in comparison to everything else. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding which was moist and sweet from multiple avenues of ingredients. Overall, my new go-to dinner spot...
