I've been coming here for years - too many to count! - with friends and family. It's really a great place to gather with good company when there's a chill in the air during the winter months. It has this wonderful "Up North" lodge feel so grab a seat near the fireplace or one in front of the big picture windows that overlook the scenic Credit River.
They have a Great Room in front for large families or gatherings that includes free WiFi games to keep the kids occupied prior to meal time. There's also a Game Room on the lower level where you can play darts, pinball, etc or watch sports at the high top tables that receive full customer service as well. Bonus, if the weather's behaving during our MN warmer summer months feel free to sit outside in Buffalo Taps privately enclosed patio, but no worries, if it gets chilly outside they have those wonderful propane patio heaters. Enjoy!
When it comes down to food and beverage costs... Prices are quite reasonable for the quality & quantity that you receive considering their "signature food" is ground Bison (Buffalo) and Elk Burgers. You can't go wrong trying one of these healthy lean burgers!
For starters though don't forget to order their famous cheese curds, personally I like the spicy ones. They usually have a great Happy Hour Menu & Beverage List. Which also reminds me... they get very busy during that time since it rolls right into the dinner hour with hungry kids! Either way as that time starts encroaching be aware that the place fills up fast, especially the booths and window seats overlooking the river, so plan a strategy while keeping an eye on the time so you can get there prior to the crush because they don't take reservations!
The food is really amazing, especially their signature burgers. They are juicy (never dry!), are well seasoned with big portions & side options are amazing! They usually cook your burger the way you want it. I order mine Medium Rare - Otherwise according to USDA Regulations in MN your burger will always be cooked Medium Well (grey center). But please, NEVER order it well done/hockey puck! That's a crime and I hope they don't do it!
The Buffalo Tap truly has a great atmosphere & service - The owners, bartenders & servers are quick & friendly and are happy to answer any questions you may have! Stop by, you will not be disappointed! We never are and we're usually taking half our food home with us because we're so full!!

Read moreThe previous 3 or 4 reviews are a personal attack on this restaurant. Look at the time signatures. I witnessed the situation these "Separate Groups" chose to review about. This was a sports team that came in, with what I overheard, could be from 15 to 30 or more people and zero willingness to commit to a final number so they could be appropriately seated and served.. There was already a half full restaurant and the players...8 to 10, maybe 12 years olds... were already being disruptive to other guests upon arrival. Loud and rambunctious. We witnessed a host/manager ask to make sure that this overly large party be respectful of the customers already dining. Then we witnessed the kids yelling across the dining room when asked the simple question of what the they wanted to drink, having no clue how to act in public...then when the server(s) simply said "we'll come back when you're ready to order" , one of the parents lost it and demanded that the entire group leave. They screamed at the tops of there lungs at the staff that were trying to help them, though the staff had little chance of doing so based on the complete lack of parenting/guardianship that was going on during their visit. The only reason I am writing this response to these reviews is that I so very applaud this restaurant for standing up for the customers that were already dining with them in lieu of a large group that clearly had no one's interests on their minds but their own experiences. As these people were leaving, it couldn't be more obvious that they were leaving harsh reviews on their phones...hence my lack of surprise to find these immediately. KARENS at the highest level.
There was a collective sigh from the guests sitting in the restaurant that this group left because if they hadn't, the majority of the guests already seated would likely have left early and in a huff believing this restaurant valued large groups and quick cash grabs over the guests that dine to enjoy a simple and tranquil meal. I hope this rebuttal gets far more attention than the obvious personal attack these people chose to levy on a simple family owned restaurant trying to take care of their guests at the highest level. Good job Buffalo Tap. We'll be back time and again because you're very much worth it.
In all honesty, if I were the owner and or manager of this restaurant, based on the ridiculous treatment the staff...and frankly the guests that were in the building already...I would reach out to the local park board and ask exactly who the team was that was playing at their facility and at least file a formal complaint against these parents. They are welcomed into a community to have their kids play games, but they don't have the right to abuse the local businesses just because they aren't set up to take care of their large groups, or aren't willing to be abused. Just my opinion.
Best to you and your staff. Please continue to maintain the obvious and high standard...
Read moreI am 45-year's -old, I've had my fair share of meals out. I’ve sampled countless versions of classic American dishes, and the French Dip has always been a personal favorite. You reach a point where you think you've seen and tasted every possible variation, from the passable to the truly great. Then, you walk into a place like The Buffalo Tap in Savage, and a single sandwich completely redefines the standard. I can say, without a shred of hyperbole, that their French Dip is the absolute best I have ever had in my life. Let’s start with the foundation, the element that immediately sets it apart: the bread. This isn't your standard, soft, forgettable roll. The culinary genius in the kitchen decided to encrust the bread with Parmesan cheese. The result is a masterpiece of texture and flavor. It arrives with a golden, crispy exterior that gives way to a soft interior, and that savory, nutty flavor of the toasted Parmesan provides a perfect, robust counterpoint to the richness of the beef. It’s a game-changing innovation that I never knew I needed. Now, for the main event: the meat. All too often, French Dips can be a bit of a disappointment in this department—a few meager slices of beef lost in a sea of bread.
Not here.
When I say this sandwich was piled high with meat, I am not exaggerating. It felt like they packed three times the amount of thinly sliced, perfectly tender roast beef you’d get anywhere else. (Real roast beef not the kind u get frozen).
Each bite was a substantial, savory mouthful of high-quality beef, so juicy and flavorful it could have stood on its own. The combination of that magnificent Parmesan crust and the sheer volume of perfectly cooked beef is what elevates this from a simple sandwich to a culinary experience. Dipping it into the rich, savory au jus was pure bliss. The crust held its integrity, softening just enough to absorb the flavorful liquid without turning to mush.
The Buffalo Tap itself has that comfortable, unpretentious vibe of a true local favorite, making the experience even better. But frankly, they could be serving this sandwich out of a shack and I’d still be singing its praises.
If you are a connoisseur of sandwiches, a lover of French Dips, or simply someone who appreciates it when a restaurant takes a classic and perfects it, you owe it to yourself to visit The Buffalo Tap. This isn't just a good sandwich; it's the new gold standard by which all other French Dips will be judged. An...
