I ate at this restaurant a few times, but the last visit was very disappointing. The service was very disappointing. Long story short, the waitress got my order wrong and did not take responsibility, but kept insisting I made that order. On top of that, I was being charged for the wrong order even though I did not eat it.
Full story: I had ordered an egg noodle dish, and with this dish, you can have it dried style or soup-style. With the dumplings, you can have them either deep-fried or steamed.
When I ordered the dish, the waitress asked me if I wanted steamed or deep-fried dumplings. I answered steamed, but she never asked me if I wanted it to be dried or soup-style. Knowing that she didn’t ask, I specified that I wanted my noodles dry with my broth on the side.
I was brought out a bowl of soup on the side with tripe inside which I questioned, but I didn’t think much of it because I had thought it was my soup on side the side. Then my egg noodle dish was brought out with soup inside as well (soup-style). I told the waitress that I had ordered the noodles dried-style and she responded that that dish comes with soup and that I had ordered a side of soup with tripe inside. I told her that I had ordered the dried-style with the soup on the side. She insisted that I ordered the tripe and apologized. She never offered for my dish to be remade or took responsibility. I work as a waitress myself so understand that mistakes can happen, but offering to remake a dish is always an option if the waitress gets the order wrong. I could have asked for my order to be remade, but I didn’t want to make it difficult for her, so I just ate the food.
I came up to pay at the register and found out I was also charged for this bowl of soup on the side. I spoke with the server and they kept insisting that I had to pay. For more context, I did not even touch the soup bowl with tripe. I don’t like tripe so it was just sitting there. I should have known better and returned the bowl of soup.
The waitresses helping me both had an attitude when I was speaking to them. It’s understandable that the waitress might have misheard my order as it seems that her English was not too great. I was greatly disappointed with their effort of trying to solve the problem even though they got my order wrong and I accepted it anyway. It was fine that they didn’t offer to remake my dish, but making me pay for the bowl of soup that I didn’t order was pushing it. They did end up taking the soup off my bill, but with attitude and after...
Read moreFriend suggested this establishment for our food needs. Staff attentiveness and observation were lacking. Not greeted or even a basic hand gesture to sit anywhere. When we decided to just seat ourselves it took a bit before a server came to us. At the end I had to snag a busser to get a to go box because they left us alone for the rest of the mean side refilling water. Luckily the food speaks for itself.
Didn't go with my usual, switched up the fresh spring rolls for the steamed pork bun. It was soft and delicate but that was about it for this bun. All carb and low seasoned innards.
Iced coffee seemed a bit small and I could've used a bit more bitterness from the espresso, however it's a guilty pleasure so can't fully knock it.
Now. The main event. Bun. Bo. Hue. Largest helping I've seen and almost beat my favorite spot. If I just looked at this dish comparatively... It might be the best I've had. You don't need to add garnish sauces because the broth was perfect. Large chunks of tender meat. No actual ham hock bone and the Vietnamese sausage they used I wasn't thrilled with.
My friend thoroughly enjoyed his noodle dish of grilled beef and egg roll. Did look...
Read moreAwesome food! I stumbled into this restaurant after a trip to Valleyfair with my kids. We ordered the rare beef pho and sweet and sour chicken for the kids. The food is amazing! The broth in the pho is fresh and has great balance. Surprisingly, since it was her first time trying it, my daughter turned out to be a huge fan of the pho as well - she was quickly given an additional small bowl so I could give her some of her own. The wait staff is attentive and sincere. It was so good I had to bring my dad a week or two later. He got the cashew chicken (I think) and really enjoyed it. He said he is coming back soon. One thing I would love to see is gluten free options listed, my husband has Celiac's disease and while many of the items look like they are gluten free, or are traditionally gluten free (pho, pad Thai, Vietnamese noodle salads, spring rolls) he cannot risk the chance of soy sauce or another wheat product in his food. Other than that 5 stars, excited to have great pho a little closer...
