Carey Hilliard's Restaurant — Restaurant in Savannah

I had to give a five-star because I wasn't going to take anything away from my Bill hilliards and Carrie hilliards started back in the day. Course we know food prices are up all around the world go to Walmart and they'll prove that. I got the campus platter I used to get it back in the day. It's like $3 or $4 more than the shrimp or oyster platter which you could get a combo for like nine bucks. I think I paid 25 or $28 for a cabinets platter and very few little bit of food on the platter didn't even have no hush puppies. No substitution not even for the fish. I know you guys can do better. Let me go back years ago I went through there and got oyster stew they grab some at the refrigerator and do it in the microwave and gave it to me and it's still cold they said we'll go back and put it back in the microwave and they did this was over at the one on highway 21 right there by 307 Dean Forest road. When they brought back to me I ate it wouldn't happy with it and doggone if I didn't chip a tooth on a oyster shell that was in there. The guy that register can't remember it's been too many years more than 10 more might be 15 I think actually 2001 - 2005. I got to say oh I can give you another thing a oyster Stew . Went with a co-worker to pick up lunch for the department. We all ordered salads. We waited about 20 minutes for salads. We finally got our orders and headed back to work. My co-worker ordered a caesar salad with grilled shrimp. There were no croutons on her salad. My other two co-workers had house salads and none of them had cucumbers. I ordered a grilled chicken salad and added grilled shrimp as well. I begin to cut my chicken up and found that my chicken was completely raw. My food was inedible! By this time, my lunch break was about over. I called and told them about my food, and I was told to bring it back so they could fix it. I didn't have the time in my lunch break to take it back, and I did not have time to get anything else to eat. I asked my boss if I could return the salad, and I went ahead and made the trip back to Carey Hilliard's. I requested my money back as I did not have time to wait for a new salad nor did I trust to eat anything else from their kitchen. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER to have almost eaten raw chicken. It was clear that the workers in the kitchen were lacking in some areas as one worker during our wait kept telling the "manager" waiting on orders to come to the window to send them home. I visited Carey Hilliards for lunch today and thoroughly enjoyed my Fajita Shrimp & Chicken Salad. It was delicious and their onion rings are to die for. The service by Jessi was excellent. She was so pleasant and incredibly efficient. She checked in on me nearly every time she passed my table. If you go, ask for her if you want real service with a genuine smile.

The restaurant was nice. It was clean and well kept and the ladies restroom was clean and well kept up too.

I will say that I did sample the crab stew and honestly was not impressed. To me it tasted like cream of mushroom soup with crab added to it. It lacked that hint of sherry that brings out the flavors in crab stew. The cream of mushroom tasting base really took away from the overall "crab stew" taste so for me it was just "ok".

If I could make a suggestion it would be to add some fresh vegetable choices like steamed broccoli and cauliflower or grilled zucchini and squash to their menu. It would also be really awesome if they offered SHRIMP & GRITS on their menu too. Hint Hint 😉
