I came to this Sonic tonight (August 8) on a Friday around 10 PM with friends to get ice cream. They close at 11 PM, but when we arrived, all the stalls were closed, so we waited in the drive-thru line for about 10–15 minutes. When we finally got to the intercom, the car in front of us was told they were only taking DoorDash and mobile orders. There was no sign posted to let customers know beforehand, which would have saved everyone time and frustration.
When I reached the intercom, I was told the same thing. I didn’t mind placing a mobile order, so I made an account and ordered from my phone for this location. After submitting it, I pulled up to the intercom again—no cars in front of me—and no one responded, even after I said “hello” several times. We decided to drive up to the window since we had already paid.
At the window, the staff looked at us with clear annoyance. When I said I had a mobile order, they rolled their eyes and asked for the name, then shut the window abruptly. They made our order and handed it over without saying a word, no napkins, and with mismatched straws (one large, one small) plus just one spoon for multiple ice creams. The ice cream itself was poorly made—not mixed well at all—and felt rushed.
The entire interaction felt unwelcoming and rude. Based on what I saw (staff cleaning quickly before 10:15 PM and turning away in-person orders), it came across as if they were trying to close early rather than provide service until their posted hours.
I understand restaurants can get busy and short-staffed, but basic communication (like posting a sign or updating the drive-thru message), friendlier customer service, and making orders correctly goes a long way. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing from...
Read moreNo, no, and no. Lived here 12 years. Been here a few times. Tried to give benefit of the doubt.
If you DO want to experience any situation below, definitely go here:
Not being given the correct order (and I mean simple drink orders) and after my immediately and politely showing the error to an employee, I had the manager come out and question "so.... you don't want what you were given?". NO! I want what I ordered and, as per the receipt I am showing you, what I have in my hand is definitely not what I ordered.
Waiting 10-15 mins in a ghost town of a parking lot for a couple milkshakes OR just not having anyone acknowledge you at all. Once, had like three cars in the lot. We ordered two drinks. Everyone around us got their orders (even those that pulled in after us and with more that what we ordered) .....nobody would reply . Nobody ever came out with our stuff. We hadn't paid yet (had cash). Ended up driving off.
Again, barely anyone in line. Order had to be repeated a few times, still for got it wrong, and cashier tried to give me $10 less than the change I was owed. Insisted I handed him a $10, when I didn't. I handed him a $20 And everyone in the car saw me do it. Check your change! Check your orders!....if They actually answer you.
I sent a message to Sonic. The regional manager replied , apologizing and with a coupon for food from there. Said he was gonna get to the bottom of things. appreciated his reply but I let the coupon lapse. I will never ever go to the Sonic on Montgomery xroads ever again.
The one in Pooler and also towards Tybee are good...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying I really like Sonic. I've been going to Sonic since I was a kid and know what kind of quality to expect from their food - it's cheap American fast food. I've had really good experiences with this particular Sonic in the past.
I decided to try the buffalo sauce popcorn chicken today and WOW it was spicy. I love spicy food, don't get me wrong but I was expecting like a mild or medium sauce. Their Buffalo sauce is definitely HOT. The chicken itself is pretty good the sauce was just too spicy, I'm really glad I got chili tots cause I couldn't finish the chicken. I'm also really glad I got an espresso shake despite it being what I had the most problems with. I ordered the oreo one and received the regular one which isn't really a big deal to me since I got to try the regular shake (the oreo one is better btw). What I had the biggest problem with might just be me being picky, but the guy who ran my food out handed me my shake with the outside of the cup dripping with melty shake... As someone who works at a busy coffee shop downtown even when we're at our busiest I always make sure the outside of the cup is clean. Especially since I often overestimate how much coffee can fit in a cup when I'm in a hurry. If it was a little bit of shake dripping on the cup I wouldn't be so bothered, but there was so much liquid icecream on my hand and it's not like I have a sink in my car so I just had sticky hand all...
