We arrived in Savannah, hungry and searched around for something to eat. Restaurant stood out with good review and we decided to check it out. We got there around 4pm on a week day and we couldn’t find parking. Since this was our first time, we couldn’t take chances with being towed. Drove around and found parking about three blocks down. Restaurant was small spaced with about four tables. It was busy and ordering was quick. Staff were pleasant. We ordered (1) large oxtail with rice/peas and Mac and cheese; (1) large brown stew chicken with rice/peas and Mac and cheese; carrot cake, and pineapple soda. We didn’t feel comfortable eating at the restaurant because it was kinda small with people waiting in the restaurant for their food. Brown stew chicken wasn’t what we were expecting, but the sauce was really good. The oxtail sauce wasn’t it for me. It wasn’t good. Carrot cake was mehn, ended up thrashing it and the oxtail menu. Hubs was too hungry to care less, typical male, lol. Finished his food. Portion size was decent but food didn’t meet my expectation.

We stopped here for dinner on our way home from S Carolina and I'm so glad we found it! I've only really had food truck and quick serve Jamaican food and I like it, but this was great! There were things on the menu that I was totally unfamiliar with, and I love to try new things! I had the oxtail with a side of cabbage and carrots and house made dumplings. My partner has the sampler (curry chicken, jerk chicken, and beef stew) with rice & peas and plantains. Everything was fantastic! The oxtail was in a rich beefy broth/gravy packed with flavor that was perfect for dipping the slightly sweet dumplings. Both chickens were fall off the bone tender and super flavorful. The real star was the beef stew. Jamacan beef stew is not your grandma's beef stew! Rich and slightly sweet and slightly spicy....YUM! Add plesant service to the experience and this is a winner!

I moved here recently from Baltimore, which has a very large Caribbean diaspora. I was very spoiled, but this is the closest I have found to the delicious, authentic Jamaican food I am used to. Not to mention, it’s like half the price in Savannah! Huge portion for $12 — two jerk chicken breasts, and a ton of cabbage, and rice and peas. The woman even gave me extra jerk sauce without me having to ask! They also have tiny containers of yummy hot sauce that you can grab. Everyone was friendly and awesome. Just an overall great experience. Thank you sweet and spice for existing! 😂😊 *Something I forgot to mention — one of the chicken breasts was perfectly moist, while the other was dry and chewy. That’s on me though. It’s always a risk when you order chicken breast anywhere. There’s a reason why in Jamaica they only use thighs.

First of all, I love ethnic cuisine. All of it. That said, Caribbean food has a special place in my heart. The heat, the flavor, the tenderness of the meat --.I love it. Being in town for work, I was thrilled to find a Caribbean restaurant so close to my hotel. After seeing the positive reviews, I was sold. The building is quaint. I was greeted warmly when I walked in the door. I pretty much knew what I wanted... all of it. Did I mention that I'm greedy? I settled for a combination plate of brown stew chicken and curry chicken. Then I decided to get a small plate of jerk chicken too. Greedy. The ladies were very friendly. I paid, jumped in my car and was back at the hotel in 5 minutes. Thrilled. I open the plates and thought to myself, "this doesn't look like what I'm used to seeing from the restaurant in my home town but whatever," I taste the brown stewed chicken - different. Not really a brown stew. The chicken had been breaded and fried at some point, which I wasn't too thrilled about cause I'm watching my carbs but whatever. It didn't have that deep brown, rich sauce that I had grown accustomed to. It was more of a tan sauce and kind of sweet. Not terrible just not what I was expecting. Then the curry chicken. This chicken wasn't breaded like the other. Not really much curry taste to it though. Quite salty too. No spice that I could tell really. I like spicy food and I pretty much expect Caribbean curry to be spicy. Hmm... disappointment. Good thing I got that jerk chicken! Please let it be good. It's hard to describe it really. It was a bit spicy but didn't really have much flavor. The seasoning was kind of like a layer on the top that fell off. I think they fried this chicken too. I'm used to the spices being rubbed all up in that chicken and permeating the very essence of the meat. Nope. Not this time. This jerk was only skin deep. The food wasn't bad really - light on the spices, heavy on the salt. I just get so excited at the very thought of eating Caribbean cuisine, that the let down hurts that much more. Nice staff, friendly atmosphere, average...

Please don't be fooled by the hype. I went to this spot bought some curry chicken, oxtails, and stew chicken. Now any Jamaican know when you're currying chicken you meat needs to be chopped in small pieces. This restaurant curried the chicken in whole pieces meaning the wings wasn't chopped the leg wasn't chopped and other parts. I've Never seen that before smh. When you purchase you stew chicken you are given a choice of white or dark meat I've never in my life heard of this....any Jamaican know stew chicken is just stew chicken, fried then cooked down. Ain't white or dark option with real Jamaican stew chicken. The oxtails wasn't well seasoned, was fresh and no taste.......I also purchased the red velvet cake which looked pink and the green velvet cake. It tasted as if it was sitting in the showcase for a while because it was slightly dry. There Ackee and salt fish are mad to order. I'm still trying to figure out why this spot got 4.5 star oh I know why but I'll leave that for another time. I would redo my this restaurant entire menu and make sure they have correct seasoning and do it right. Ps you don't have to have you Ackee and salt fish made to order it won't spoil, unless the only reason why they would do that because it's not many order. Oh and another thing don't be lazy and cook some real soup. You hardly get soup...

About 7 years ago in Washington state, was the last time I've had the warm, comforting flavors of Jamaican food. I did not grow up eating it, but there is still something about it that just grabs you by your tastebuds and your heart and tells you that everything will be okay...at least while you're eating it, lol. We had the jerk chicken, which to be honest was just a bit too salty, but still enjoyable and paired perfectly with the rice and peas and the roti. We also had the curry goat and plantains; both were incredible. Another dish we had was the ackee and salt fish. This was a first for me, so I can't say how good it was by comparison to other places, but I can tell you it had a great taste. It reminded me of really well seasoned cod and scrambled eggs. That may not sound like an appealing combination to everyone, but it works and I definitely added it to my "will buy again" mental list. We also had the coco bread (another first) and the spicy beef patties (which I would've liked to be spicier), both of which were good. The pinapple ginger and the Sorrel drinks were very fresh, both having that nice bite from the fresh ginger. All in all, you ladies at sweet spice are doing a great job and I wish you all the best. The only thing as warm and welcoming as your food, was your...
