Absolutely appalling customer service, and I can’t believe how poorly we were treated after being loyal customers for years. On 10/26, we ordered two boba drinks from Elitea at International Market in Schaumburg, and when we got home, we realized they had tons of sprinkles in them—something we definitely did not ask for, and they only expanded and made the drink clumpy.
Fast forward to 11/10, we returned with our receipt to have the mistake corrected. What followed was a complete circus of confusion: the employees ran back and forth between managers, unable to figure out how to resolve the issue. For 25 minutes, we were left waiting while they debated what to do.
To make matters worse, we were treated like we were lying about our order. They asked if we had photos (we didn’t take pictures of the drinks, but that’s beside the point). They then tried to tell us their policy was that mistakes can only be fixed within 7 days, even though nowhere on the receipt does it mention this policy. Finally, after much back-and-forth, they agreed to remake one of the drinks—not both, even though the mistake was on them. This is just completely unacceptable.
As someone who has worked in food service for over 7 years, I know how important it is to take care of loyal customers when they bring a genuine issue to you. But the way we were treated here was beyond disrespectful. This isn’t just bad service; it’s an entire breakdown of how to not properly handle customer complaints. After placing my drink on the counter I noticed that they got my entire order wrong and gave me an iced drink instead of a hot one and in a regular sized cup when I ordered a large. I made sure to repeat the order twice when speaking to the employee and ordering the drink. When I told the cashier about my order being completely wrong she then accused me of lying and telling me that was what I ordered. I had to tell her multiple times that she had misunderstood my order and my husband who was next to me at this time could attest that she had my order all wrong.
