Abel's Diner, conveniently situated just off Highway 35, might just be the crown jewel of diners in Schertz, TX. From the moment we stepped in, we were met with efficiency and warmth, setting the stage for what would be an unforgettable dining experience. Within moments of our arrival, we were comfortably seated in a booth of our choosing, a testament to the establishment's attentiveness to its patrons' needs.
Our server, Mona, epitomized hospitality as she gracefully navigated the bustling diner, attending to each table with a genuine smile and a polite demeanor. Despite our initial uncertainty about the menu, Mona effortlessly fielded our questions and even went above and beyond by offering us a sample of the Carne Guisada. Her thoughtful gesture instantly convinced us that this dish would be a culinary highlight of our visit.
As we perused the menu further, it became evident that Abel's Diner prides itself on offering a diverse array of dishes to satisfy every palate. I opted for a hearty breakfast plate featuring over-easy eggs smothered in ranchero sauce, accompanied by a tantalizing Carne Guisada taco and the pièce de résistance – biscuits and gravy. Meanwhile, my wife indulged in the simplicity of two breakfast tacos, each bursting with flavor and freshness.
Throughout our meal, Mona's attentiveness never wavered. She kept my water glass impeccably topped off and was quick to anticipate any additional needs we might have had. Her dedication to ensuring our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional was evident in every interaction.
Beyond the stellar service, Abel's Diner boasts a charming and immaculately clean atmosphere that only enhances the overall dining experience. The welcoming ambiance, coupled with the tantalizing aroma of freshly prepared dishes, created an atmosphere that felt like coming home.
What truly sets Abel's Diner apart, however, is its remarkable value. Despite offering high-quality fare and impeccable service, the prices remain refreshingly reasonable, making it accessible to all who seek a memorable dining experience without breaking the bank.
In conclusion, Abel's Diner exceeded our expectations in every aspect. From the delectable dishes to the outstanding service provided by Mona, every moment spent here was a delight. Read moreI have been going here for years and today was horrible! The server was great Dan the food was ok but when I asked them to please remake the fries on my to go order the owner came over and was so unbelievably rude and unprofessional that I will NEVER go back until she’s gone. Normally they give a decent portion but there was barely any and they were all small like the butts or ends of the potato and we’re over cooked. The server was kind and said sure no problem. Several minutes later a short Hispanic woman stomps over to my table with a mean look on her face and gets within 12 inches of my face to complain about me. I said excuse me but why are you coming at me like this? She snapped at me and said because I was wasting food. I described the fries and she said there was nothing wrong with them. The server came over with my order while she was barking at me. I said look I’ve been coming here for years and never had this type of service or rudeness. She rolled her eyes and said oh you’ve been coming here for years well I’m the owner. I said you’re the owner, well inferior your staff because you’re very unprofessional. There’s no need for you to come at me like this when I haven’t raised my voice to you once. I said if it’s such a big deal you can keep the order and I will just pay for what I ate here. The server said I’m sorry and the owner gave her a dirty look for that. I said look I just won’t come here again and she snapped and said good then I won’t have to waste food again. When I went to pay for my order a few other employees apologized to me and one even said she took over in January 2025 and it’s been very hard for people to work with her. It explains why there is a help wanted sign. I didn’t see anyone I recognized. The food was ok but her ownership and management style is horrible and if you eat here and send anything back while she’s there expect to be confronted in a very argumentative manner. I attached her picture so buyer beware. All of this over fries, 🤦🏻♀️ something she can write off for her taxes and she wants to lose...
Read moreLittle Gem! I LOVE to cook at home and once in a while I want to take a little break. Well, this little gem of a place was on point!
Service- (Ask for Nic) Polite and on his game. Friendly and always made sure to take away our empty plates and refill our drinks. He is a young man and must brag about his work. When he wasn't busy, I saw him helping and keeping busy. KUDOS Nic! Don't change.
Food- Oh My! I was craving a Chicken Fried Steak; I loved the portion size and the mashed potatoes were yummy! I just don't like my food smothered or drowning in gravy, I ordered it on the side and it was delicious. My Love ordered the Open Faced Roast Beef Sandwich, he gave me a sliver of a taste and goodness exploded on my taste buds.
Spoke with one of the owners, she was super nice and listened to me brag about Nic and the cute little gem of a place.
I almost didn't want to write this review as I wanted to keep the secret to myself but as we were walking out, there was a room full of waiting patrons. Now I know its not a secret, just nobody told me about this place. Very important- The employees wash their hands ALL the time. The kitchen and serving area is open (which I like) and a small sink was nearby and let me just say, I have never seen employees was their hands so much while working......Keep it up!
Thanks to Google in my search for Chicken Fried Steak, I found this place and my next review will be for...
