This is my follow up review from a year ago.
Satuit Tavern used to be excellent and my go to while in town but has outgrown their reason for being a food service provider...
We have eaten here many times before and during Covid and the restaurant has slid downhill for sure...this was from last night...
In these times we all are trying to frequent and support local restaurants.
Tonight was the final blow that pushed me to edit/rewrite my review of the Satuit Tavern... both hostesses were so rude and unaccommodating that we will never go back and we visit Scituate quite frequently over the past 25+ years.
We agreed to wait 25 minutes for a table, now mind you the food/service is not what it was a year ago (and fully understanding the new environment we all live/work/play in) is at best mediocre.
The appreciative atmosphere is GONE! Even with several other poorly remembered visits in the past year we were hoping for a turnaround of how it used to be we STILL agreed to wait for a table.
The hostess asked for a name, then a phone number and said we will call you when your table is ready.
When we went outside and a large group of people had congregated within 15 feet of the door waiting for their tables. Not appropriate and unacceptable. Does the restaurant management just forget about what happens outside of the front door? No Covid plan? Or even direction?
We went across the street away from the crowd to wait for the call.
After about a half hour we went back to see how much longer it was going to be and we were met with a very upset younger dark haired hostess... She truly seemed exasperated that we were told we would be called when our table was ready.
As we watched, she went inside and appeared to get into an argument with the other hostess who actually took our name and number. Obviously they didn't call us and passed us over on the the waiting list.
Then the older gray haired hostess, the one who took our name and number and said she would call us when our table was ready proceeded to come out and argue with us about what she had said, denying she told us we would be called...really??? What causes this lack of professionalism???
She was unapologetic, argumentative and rude.
She then suggested that we would have wait our turn... again...maybe another 20 minutes...we did not wait and left.
All of this could have been corrected with a simple apology and owning up to the mistake, but because they do not appreciate customers...who pay their wages... they would rather appear to be above it all and let this poor treatment happen...pretty sure this was NOT an isolated occurrence!!!
It is unfortunate that this restaurant fails to appreciate its patrons during these difficult economic times.
Well, from now on my contribution to Scituates local restaurant economy will go to the hard working, respectful & deserving...
Read moreI’ve been to this restaurant dozens of times, the food is usually great and the service is usually decent. This was not the case today on 7/22. My servers name was “Marybeth” by the way, so this entire review will be in regard to her and the service she provided today. First off when we sat down at the table my aunt told her that her, my grandmother and myself would be having separate checks so it’d be clear from the get-go. Before my aunt could finish her sentence our server rudely cut her off and said “I don’t care about that right now I’m taking drink orders.” Which was said in a rather patronizing tone by the way. The second issue started when I asked for a sprite, Marybeth told me “You’re supposed to stay with the same drink you know but I’ll allow it” as if I couldn’t just order a different soda then the one I had the first time. The third issue was when I received my sprite it had small debris or gunk floating around in it to which I brought up to her upon asking for a new drink. My grandmother who had gone to the bathroom right after this told me that all Marybeth did was stir my drink around and then return it to my table. At this point I didn’t even say anything I just left the glass sitting there for the rest of our meal. The fourth issue we encountered came when my cousin didn’t eat his chicken tenders because they were over cooked and dry. When pointed out to Marybeth she took them, returned them to the kitchen and then told my grandmother and aunt “The chicken tenders weren’t burnt at all. I opened them myself and they were very moist and juicy.” I don’t claim to be a food critic or a service expert but that is absolutely no way to talk to someone who has an issue with the food that can simply be resolved by just taking it off the bill. I was embarrassed and felt completely disrespected that Marybeth would say something like that to my elderly grandmother. Rather than apologize, take the item off the menu and move on, she chose to argue and bicker over $10 dollar chicken tenders with an elderly woman. I am beyond embarrassed for this establishment that they’d hire someone who treats guests like that from a service perspective. My family was disrespected multiple times over the course of our meal and we will surely not be returning back. As a former service, it’s my belief that you should treat all customers with the utmost respect and hospitality especially when they are the...
Read moreWe had heard good things [OK, neighbors Raved about it] and called several days earlier for reservations for a recent Saturday night. We were told, sorry, no reservations, but you'll only have a few min wait.
Well, everyone on the south shore had the same plan as we did... after ~45 mins we were seated. The loud crowd at the bar extended over the partial wall into the dining room. The waitress was extremely nice, friendly, and helpful.
The 4 of us chose very different items, yet the only comment was about the fish chowder, which recd 2 Great votes. Other fish choices [2] were "kinda bland" - lots of scallops wrapped in bacon for an app and they were good, but a bit over cooked and the veggies with the fish were barely noticeable under the tomatoes.
None of us ordered fried food, and lots of serving platters were filled with that. I think if we ordered fried food, we would have been in the Satuit Tavern's sweet spot?
The noise at other tables had to compete with the bar, which resulted in an even louder din. There appeared to be sound-absorbing panels on the ceiling. I can't imagine how loud the place was before those panels were added. Clearly, the owners know the noise problem and are trying to fix it.
Sorry, no pictures.
Returned for another chance: Two of us on a quiet Monday night. Once again, nothing special. Pretty okay Calamari, but nothing special. Stuffies were full of stuffing and didn't see/taste any quahog. Soup/Chowder special, spinach artichoke lacked depth; French Onion soup was really bland and disappointing. Food 2/Service 3/Atm 3 Added 2 pics. I don't know about a...
