This was beyond a bad experience. I grew up coming to this place with my great grandma, and her memory is the reason I went tonight. The evening began with us listening to our waitress tell the guests next to us that they didn't have 2 of the items that they had ordered well after they ordered them. Our initial order was also not on the menu. The food was bland tonight, but the biggest shocker was the cold mashed potatoes. Out waitress then had to leave, mid meal, and gave us our check before dessert. She told us that there would be a different person to check on us, but we had to flag the manager down after waiting for 15 minutes or so. The dessert we wanted also ran out, and we were forced to choose a different option again. This is by far the worst experience I've had here, and I strongly doubt I'll be returning. This saddens me, as like I said before, I've been going to this restaurant my entire life.

My colleagues and I came here for lunch, and I must say that this diner went above and beyond my expectations! Maryann our waitress was the epitome of hospitality. She took exceptional care of us in every way. I ordered the lunch special Panini and Soup with a side of French fries, and a desert of Strawberry Ice cream. The soup was a delicious Lobster Bisque cooked to perfection. I had to withhold myself from finishing the soup at the risk of wasting my main course. The main course arrived shortly afterwards and oh my, what a beauty! The French fries were golden and crispy, and the Panini was ever so delicious šŸ˜‹! I must say, after 10 years of living across Europe, Asia and Africa, this was the best restaurants meal I've had since my return to the US. It felt as though we were in a 5-Star restaurant! I most certainly recommend this diner to anyone who visits Scotch Plains, New Jersey .

Great NJ diner experience! My family and I (4 adults, 2 teens, 1 toddler) came in Black Friday for a quick bite to eat and Scotchwood Diner met our expectations and beyond! Ample selection for any eater and easily could accommodate a large party with kids without issue. We got many items, including those pictured: Mediterranean omelette, chicken souvlaki platter, and a big salad with chicken. All were delicious and affordable for a great diner experience. Stop by!

Not a very good experience The waitresses are all should I say elderly our particular waitress seemed perturbed when she came over to take a drink order and not all of us were ready to order a drink right away same thing when she came to take the dinner order said we weren't ready she huffed and puffed and walked away also did not seem pleased if we had to ask for anything else one time commenting does anybody want anything else so I don't have to make another trip but the worst part was the food there was a three-person party my friend had a hamburger he wanted it well done but it looked really dry and he said the onion rings were kind of cold and soggy my boyfriend ordered a ribeye steak medium it was overcooked but ate it anyway baked potato was good whatever frozen vegetables they gave he just put it aside but the real sad part was my meal I ordered the London broil I ordered it medium rare it came out well done I couldn't even chew it it looked more like chuck steak or at least the shoulder cut of London broil cut into long strips with the grain instead of a London broil from the round part of the cow cut crosswith against the grain which would give you shorter pieces that was the least of the problems they brought me was supposed to be a brown gravy that was bright red I asked the waitress I said I thought it said it comes with the mushroom brown gravy she says why I can get you mushrooms just took the same dish back and they threw some sliced can mushrooms in it disgusting I also ordered mashed potatoes they must have run out bc what I got looked like a baked potato mashed up but there was even one big chunk in there and pieces of skin I showed it to the manager she said yes that meat is totally overcooked and that is not the mashed potatoes so I don't understand how the cook could send this out of the kitchen we also had the baby Greek salad which didn't even have one kalamata olive let alone a grape leaf and the dressing was just vegetable oil and oregano did not taste red wine vinegar or any vinegar just an overall lousy experience oh and will not...

I have never written a review before, but now I must. On Monday, during the floods, many people including children were stranded after being rescued from the water or having no way home. We gathered in this diner, just relieved to be somewhere safe. Even though they were closing, we stayed in the waiting area, we weren’t even allowed to sit at tables, but no one complained.

Then they decided to kick everyone out, people with small kids, people clearly scared for their lives, and they didn’t care one bit. One rude lady (not sure if she was a waitress) continued to rolled her eyes, treated us as if we were bothering her, and made everyone feel unwelcome. She wouldn’t even let me plug my phone in! How could any human being act this way toward people who were literally stranded and frightened?

Would it really hurt to brew a pot of coffee and let people sit until it was safe to leave? It’s not like the staff could really leave anyway, it was flooded all around and everyone was stranded!!!! As a business owner, you take on being part of the community, and in a moment like this, that means showing basic compassion. Instead, this place showed none. It’s not just disappointing; it’s shameful and embarrassing.

I have seen posts on Facebook groups of other businesses that stepped up and gave people shelter for a couple of hours during this time of need. Unfortunately, I did not have that experience.

Some posts below that state how the diner had to kick everyone out for their own safety from a drunk man are written by EMPLOYEES and it’s false. Id actually have more respect if they owned up to it, could’ve even said they were also very nervous and did not act properly and apologize.

I live in the area, and I’ve never been here before and will NEVER return–and I’ll make sure everyone I know hears about this inhumane behavior. I’m still shaken up just thinking about it. I am sure that some really great employees work at this diner, but unfortunately the ones present during this time did not show an ounce...

My boyfriend and I frequent the diner and this past Sunday might have been our last. We each ordered an omelet, our home fries well done, and toast. When our plates came out, the home fries were slightly crispy on the outside but were the consistency of mashed potatoes on the inside. My omelet was undercooked and our toast was buttered as if they iced a cake. The waitress came over to check on us and I showed her my food to which she said "yea that is definitely undercooked. We have new cooks while the others are away on vacation." So she took my meal back as well as our home fries.

When she returned, my omelet was still not cooked through and our home fries really weren't all that well done and crispy as we ordered.

She had come over to check on us and I sent my food back. She came back and offered to comp the meal and also offered me a stack of pancakes or even a waffle. I declined. I had lost my appetite at that point.

I know it wasn't her fault, and we didn't want to cause a scene, but I don't think it is wise to share you have "new cooks" especially working on a busy Sunday morning.

The waitress did inform the manager who informed the cooks, so I hope no one else had issues...
