Alright, had to check this place out because a lot of people were posting about it and I’m a sucker for homemade noodles. There are some pros and cons to this place. 5 stars for the food absolutely delicious! The homemade noodles and dumplings are incredible!
However, this is the soft opening and when we arrived it was right when they opened at 11am. This place severely lacks customer service, servers and organization. We were there for OVER an hour in a half! The older woman with the glasses was the only one taking orders and you can tell she was frazzled and just couldn’t keep up. There was another guy who was trying to help but he said he just started that day and he’s confused. We waited over an hour for our food and even then we didn’t get it all.
As more people were coming in, some people who were there beforehand were getting agitated because they’ve been waiting for their food to arrive but some people who were seated as soon as they came in, got their food pretty quickly. Orders were given to the wrong tables and it was just a disaster.
Since this is a soft opening, this is the first impression many people have of this place and even if the food is delicious- it will be difficult to get people to come back because the wait times are so long and the only waitress there forgets to bring the rest of the order. She is a bit rude and when you let her know that you still haven’t received part of your order she brushes it off as if it’s no big deal even if we’ve been waiting for a while. They are giving out cans of soda that are not cold, straight out of the box. It’s a shame because the food really is delicious but it’s being overshadowed by a lack of organization and a staff that needs to hire more waiters/waitresses.
First impressions matter, when we arrived some of our plates and silverware was still dirty. Another table had that same issue because the girl let the waitress know there was something in her water. Some tables cancelled part of their orders due to the wait times. This place can be that place people go to for all their noodle and dumplings needs but something has to change. I’m hoping they learn from this soft opening so it can be a better experience for other customers. I’ll wait a couple months before I come back, hopefully then it will be a better...
Read moreWe ate at Bing Bistro for dinner on a Saturday night.
We waited 10 minutes before any server showed us where to sign up on wait list (piece of paper by the bar). Waited 20 minutes after that to only share seating with 3 other groups.
We ordered: Half Peking Duck + Soup option Spicy Beef Noodle Soup Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings)
Each item came out fair long delay after another, it probably took 15 mins for each item to come out totalling 45 mins.
Food quality: Peking Duck was good and fatty but not meaty enough. The soup from left over duck bones takes entirely like msg and a bit of cleaning detergent. Beef Noodle Soup was good but also had a similar after taste like the duck soup Xiao Long Bao was not authentic. It had a strange pork taste, and the dipping didn't have any ginger only ginger powder.
Service: Service was really friendly. But they were so unorganized and going from table to table like the place is on fire. Even with the shared tables, they got the bill right! Brings a bowl of duck soup but forgets smaller bowls and spoons. How can we drink? Had to chase someone down for this.
Environment/Cleaniness: The place is still under construction Strange large tables for sitting 16 people. Had to share table - not ideal Someone threw up beef noodle soup in the bathroom trash bin. Disgusting.
Overall, I think this place has potential as there isn't any other place like it in North Scottsdale. But they need to: organize their front staff better (use an app for wait list, bring utensils and other stuff to guests as food comes out, work on better timing of food) improve cleaniness - I can't find a Maricopa health report on the place at all but I think puke in bathroom is a health hazard. We also got stomach flu that night after eating here. They just need to taste their own food and adjust. And provide proper authentic XLB dipping with real diced ginger rather than ginger powder. Finish construction with proper tables and seating. Remove the bar if it's only used to hold extra utensils and other stuff if it's not usable by guests.
The staff have heart and I hope they do well after...
Read moreI recently visited Bing Bistro after hearing great things on social media, and as a huge fan of Chinese cuisine, I was excited to check it out. The highlight of my experience was definitely the Peking duck, which was served in two parts: the first part featured beautifully presented duck meat with thin Chinese crepes, cucumbers, and green onions, along with hoisin sauce. The second part included crispy, salt-and-pepper fried duck bones, which were a delicious surprise and showed their commitment to using every part of the duck.
I also tried the signature beef rib noodle soup, which had a tasty broth, though the noodles themselves were a bit on the bland side, and the beef wasn’t quite what I expected based on the menu photo. The pork and chive dumplings were solid and clearly made with fresh ingredients, although I’ve had even more memorable dumplings elsewhere.
That said, I need to be completely transparent here, after originally writing this review but before I posted it, I found out that Bing Bistro was actually featured on AZ Family Channel 3’s Dirty Dining list here in Phoenix. The violations included not having a qualified food manager on site, not properly cleaning dishes, and failing to keep items like fried rice and bok choy at the correct temperatures. Honestly, that completely grossed me out and really bummed me out after what I thought was a good experience. I even made a social media post about it because I was so disappointed.
Given this new information, I’m unfortunately dropping my rating to two stars. It’s hard to enjoy the food knowing there are these kinds of food safety concerns behind the scenes. I won’t be returning unless they make some serious improvements and prove they can meet basic...
