Walked in here two weeks ago with the intent to buy some cards and possibly newer commander decks, as I've been out of the game for the last few months. I've been DYING to find a location to come in and play and buy stuff, so I'm always searching the area for any and all MTG stores -
needless to say, when I walked in, the employee was engaged in a conversation with a seemingly frequent quest of theirs - but never once did they acknowledge my entering the store with a simple, welcome, how can I help you with?/anything you're looking for? (normal and routine inquiries for most stores....) I literally stood at the front counter RIGHT IN FRONT of him for an uncomfortable amount of time as this employee was trying to convince this other customer to leave their home and come play at the store more often (the absolute irony)... again as I was looking at their display case he never once acknowledged me or again, ask me if I was looking for something in particular or had questions... and I really didn't have an opening as he just kept conversing with the other customer... finally I kind of interrupted to ask the price of a commander deck and VERY DISMISSIVELY he said "it's like 50$ or something, I don't know." ............. okkaaaay........ clearly he was not interested in servicing me because I'm a girl and girls obviously don't play magic 🙄
I've been to a few local stores in PHX and Mesa where the employees were absolutely AMAZING and attentive, providing ACTUAL customer service, and did NOT make me feel unwanted or uncomfortable because I was a girl in a male dominated space --- they made me feel just like a normal fan looking to play some cardboard with others.
But really, I was very dissatisfied with this places customer service. I've worked in customer service oriented jobs most of my life and it's just a major peeve when owners or employees obviously have 0 bedside manners.
If you're a girl looking to play magic or buy products, I do NOT recommend this place. it was way too awkward and uncomfortable and definitely did not feel like I would've been welcomed here to come in and play. It's already so difficult to play in GENERAL because it's a male dominated game, and trying to squeeze in is really not so easy. wish things were different, but my search continues for a better and girl...
Read moreThey primarily do everything Warhammer. Massive selection of Warhammer models. Excellent selection of model paints.
They have other things, like MTG and Pokémon but their jam is Warhammer. Both sides of the store are lined with Warhammer products from various realms, specific factions, different game types, like Kill Team or Necromunda. Excellent selection of Warhammer models. It's getting harder and harder to tell who has the largest selection of Warhammer product in the valley, but Old World Games is probably a top 5 contender.
They said they sell trading cards but you can't easily look at most of them unless you want to use the computer in their store to do so. I read through all of the reviews, looks like people are mostly unhappy with their trading card prices at this establishment for both buying and selling. I talked with Luke for a moment, he said they have something like 64,000 cards on their website listed for sale. I saw a relatively good sized collection of MTG playmats for sale with other TCG card storage/display products.
To note: There is a bathroom, canned drinks, a soda fountain, and snacks. No charge to play on the tables. There are game events daily/weekly, primarily Warhammer, some TCG / various others. Lots of tables to play on, padded chairs, and they have a selection of terrain/environment pieces you can borrow/use for your game (no models). Small selection of board games for sale, not all Warhammer related.
Overall a good experience - worth checking out if you're even a little bit into Warhammer, or you're looking for a...
Read moreDon’t be fooled by the guy with the accent he acts like he is your friend but then scams you i sold him a 151 charizard not knowing much about selling cards. He looks at the quality and is like oh what did you do to the card I said nothing I took a picture of it and then sleeved it up he was telling me the reasons that the card was in bad quality could be from the printing so he said it would be really hard to sell so he gives me 60$ for it because of the damage and I believed him. Decided to go in today to see if he would remember me he didn’t. I seen the charizard that I sold him I asked him how much he is selling it for and looks me in my face tells me 220$ I wanted to jump over the counter and do something that will get me in trouble but I just walked out that guy is a scam never again would I go...
