This is one of the largest cafes that I know of. We like it mostly because of the space. Plenty of seating inside and on the patio. The breakfast sandwiches are above average, and the cold brew is passable. Definitely better than Starbucks, if that means anything to you. The pastries are good, but a little expensive. The last time I visited, I had received an email from their rewards program for a free drink because I had not visited in a very long time. I ordered a sandwich and mentioned the email. After I scanned my rewards, it popped up and said I was eligible for a free drink. The barista immediately closed that window and pointed out that I did not have visits for a free drink. I insisted that she just (intentionally) closed the notification which explained that I was correct. She insisted I did not have enough visits. I repeated that the drink was not for the number of visits, but rather a way to get me to come in and buy that sandwich. Feeling bad for having to fight for the drink, I added a brownie to the order and tipped in hopes that I want coming off as a freeloader. With much contention, I ultimately received the free beverage, along with paying for two additional items; a sandwich and the brownie. The sandwich was missing two ingredients, but I used up all of my back-bone insisting on that drink... So I ate it as is. I'm not sure what motivation a barista has to deceive in that way- after all, it doesn't affect her paycheck. I can only assume that she was told to do that...
Read moreMy uncle got sick tonight on the coffee. I’ve been coming there for a long time. I guess they’ve changed the recipe on the coffee apparently and it taste a lot different. It’s not good being a coffee connoisseur I need to do something about the coffee I’ve known the owners for a while and the coffee place and it used to be really good coffee, but Somethings change and my uncle tonight’s been throwing up and really sick off the coffee. I hope they’ll change the recipe. The service is great. Employees are great. I like what they’ve done with the place. They can have a different selection of music out there, but we come there for the coffee and unfortunate. The coffee is not good. I’m not sure if anyone else has notice but it’s a lot different and it does not taste as good. Like I said my uncle got really sick tonight has been throwing up ever since Hopefully, I don’t have to take him to the hospital I hope they’ll get a new recipe for the coffee besides that I like the place, but the coffee is not good and whatever’s in the Espresso made my uncle very ill and he drinks coffee every day and I’ve been getting a coffee there but the coffee does not taste good to me. I didn’t get sick but it’s not tasting that good. He used to be a lot better and that’s my only complaint that’s the only reason I gave it one star unfortunately because I’m concerned about my uncle tonight he got really sick...
Read moreThis used to be my favorite coffee place in Scottsdale. Lately it seems they are having a problem attracting and keeping good staff. I was in there yesterday and the guy behind the counter had zero communication skills. While pouring coffee he was about as disinterested as any public facing employee I'd ever seen. I haven't given up on them yet, however, I am getting close. The most dreadful loud music you've ever heard, however, a very good Cafe' Americano. Follow up - I went back a few days later and there was a cheerful happy person behind the counter and the experience was more like what I remember from past visits. Now if I can find what when 'Mr. Effervescence' days off are I can avoid coming in for coffee on those days. Changed my review from 2 stars to 3. 3 strikes and your out! We encountered 'Mr.Effervescence' again behind the counter and I'm telling you, this guy has no business in a client facing role - what's worse, he is apparently the manager. Is it any wonder they have help wanted signs on the door as you walk in. Fooled me three times, I guess I'm not as bright as most folks. Not likely to return -too many other...
