First 2 star rating. First experience at Cold Stone. Drove 15 minutes out of the way bc my wife was craving it, and I had never been to one before. Upon opening the door, the overwhelming odor of a dirty locker room almost literally made us leave without even making it to the counter. My wife said it was ok to leave if I wanted to, but she had been craving it for several days and we already made the drive. At the counter, there were 2 employees up front that didn't acknowledge our existence until the amount of time we were standing there got awkward. Then an employee asked what we wanted, and I informed him I've never been and asked how their system worked. I didn't see chocolate chip in the mint choc chip ice cream, no cookies in the cookies n cream etc. Response was,"like ice cream". After we waded through the waters of awkward teenage angst, sarcasm and rudeness we went to sit down at a table and.... Every single table was beyond filthy. At least 3 groups of people had sat at each table since their last cleaning bc the amount of melted ice cream, dirty napkins and half eaten waffle cones left behind reminded me of the battlefield from Hacksaw Ridge. My wife audibly gasped, "it's so filthy!" Not intentionally, just reactionary. So I walked over to the counter and asked for napkins. The employee pointed across the counter without saying a word.... I'm not making this up... And just pointed to a single napkin holder on the other side of the counter as if he had become part of Michaelangelo's creation painting. Trying to clean these tables was out of question with napkins bc of the amount of time all the previously spilled ice cream and toppings had to fester on their surfaces... So we took a few bites and made our way to the Leaning Tower of Pisa trash piles stacked ABOVE the opening circle... in an impressive display of gravity-defying-used-cup-and-cone waste.... Balanced ours on the top (which actually stayed without falling over) and proceeded to the parking lot where my wife simply stated, ' well that wasn't the best experience".... And then I noticed the Google notification on my phone asking for a review... Hopefully it was an off...
Read moreI've been a regular customer at Cold Stone on Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd in Scottsdale and have generally had positive experiences. However, my recent visit just before closing left a lot to be desired.
We arrived about 5-10 minutes before closing time, where we encountered a less-than-welcoming atmosphere. It was clear that the employees were already in closing mode, with some of them audibly expressing frustration that they "should have locked the doors earlier" prior to our arrival. Throughout our visit, there were audible complaints among the staff about wanting to close earlier, which we overheard loud enough to be unsettling.
Despite this, we proceeded with our order and tried to be considerate of their closing procedures. However, there were three employees behind the counter who seemed unwilling to take our order promptly, which would have sped up the whole process and possibly alleviated some of the tension.
While preparing our ice cream, the employees continued to complain about wanting to close earlier, which made us feel unwelcome. When it came time to pay, there was an uncomfortable moment when they verbally expressed dissatisfaction with our tip amount.
While tipping is customary, I shouldn’t feel obligated to do so, especially when met with unwelcoming attitudes. When I do tip as a gesture of goodwill, employees should never complain about the amount.
We ensured to complete our transaction promptly, and we were completely out of the store by 10:00 PM, which was the closing time. Despite our efforts to be considerate, the overall customer service during this visit fell short of the usual standards. It's disappointing to leave an establishment feeling like an inconvenience, especially when I've been a customer for some time.
I hope this feedback encourages management to reinforce customer service values during closing hours to ensure every customer feels valued, regardless of the...
