I dine out 4–5 times a week religiously and have been to over 1,000 establishments across the U.S. (not counting international spots). I was genuinely looking forward to bringing my girlfriend here while my wife was out of town. I try not to write negative reviews based on a single visit, but I don’t want anyone else being let down, so here’s my honest take.
I’d seen some people recommend this place, and while the ambiance is undeniably beautiful—romantic, modern, and inviting—the food simply didn’t measure up. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, and as someone who has traveled nearly every inch of Mexico and enjoyed some of the best authentic Mexican food out there, these were disappointing. What I was served was essentially three tortillas filled with spiced chicken, smothered in something that tasted like straight tomato sauce. It just wasn’t an enchilada.
My girlfriend ordered the salmon, and while she said she enjoyed it, she’s not as seasoned with dining experiences as my wife and I are. To me, the dish (and the meal overall) felt underwhelming for the price point.
So, was the space romantic? Absolutely—100%. The ambiance was beautiful and perfect for a date night. But unfortunately, the food did not justify the cost, and that’s the core of why I can’t recommend...
Read moreHonestly, I was really looking forward to trying this restaurant out with my husband for Valentines Day. I try not to write bad reviews because I just don't like judging places based on one experience. However, I don't want anyone else going to this place and being let down on a special day with their partner. So, here is what I thought.
I had seen some people recommend this place and loved the look and feel of it based on videos and pictures. Unfortunately, the ambiance and beauty of the restaurant do not make up for the food. I ordered the chicken enchiladas course. As a local AZ girl who has had her share of amazing Mexican food, these were not enchiladas. The sauce was basically tomato sauce slathered over 3 tortillas stuffed with spiced chicken. I was not impressed. My husband got the Salmon Mole dish. He said he enjoyed it for the most part but agreed that it was underwhelming for what the atmosphere and price set it up to be. Just not a good eating experience for either of us.
Now, was this place romantic? 100% Such a beautiful space and atmosphere. But, like I said, the beauty did not make up for the price we paid and the...
Read moreElvira’s is absolutely stunning. The atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. It has a beautiful gothic vibe with a rich interior lit by deep purples and reds. The chandeliers are huge glass centerpieces, and the candle display at the entrance with real candles sets the tone right away. It feels luxurious and romantic, offering a refined take on Mexican dining.
We were seated in a booth that was perfect for two, like a plush little couch overlooking the whole dining room. It was super comfortable and private without feeling isolated. Service was excellent. Water glasses never dipped below half, and the food came out sizzling hot with perfect timing.
The appetizers were impressive, fresh, flavorful, and clearly crafted with care. My entrée was good, though not quite what I expected. That was on me for not reading the menu more closely. I’m already looking forward to going back and trying something different.
This place is upscale, artistic, and truly unique for Mexican cuisine in Scottsdale. I’ll...
