This place doesn't look the greatest from the outside, and upon entrance the friend I brought along was really hesitant to stay. Despite the somewhat seedy atmosphere, however, the girl who took our order at the register (I believe her name was Katie) was extremely kind and helpful in describing the dishes and making suggestions. We sat at the tables outside after ordering, and Katie brought out our orders along with napkins and utensils.
Upon receiving the plates, our first impression was amazement at the incredible amount of food we had been served. We then were under the impression that we had died and gone to heaven after digging into the absolutely delicious food. We ordered a Chicken Supreme pita sandwich and a Gyro Platter. Both dishes were pretty standard in cost as far as gyros go, but like I said, we got so much food for what we paid for! There were also bottles of Sriracha to use, which I always appreciate, and we also got free drink coupons from checking in on our Yelp mobile apps.
This place is a MUST! The meat was seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the tzatziki sauce was fresh and flavorful. Both meals came with salads which were incredible and very authentic, full of different veggies and topped with feta and a great oil dressing. We chose rice to accompany the platter which was basic white rice, but was the ideal complementary side. We also had the fries with the gyro which were thick cut and addicting!
I would highly recommend dining here to anyone and I look forward to returning and trying additional dishes from the menu. The only advantages that their nearby competitor Oliveo Grill holds are the option of delivery and being open late (George's closes at 8 p.m.), but other than that the food at George's Famous Gyros is...
Read moreWent here once before and had a great Gyro, great service and a good experience overall. We used two $10 coupons and had no issues.
Came back again a month or so later, again with two coupons for $10 each to try a different entrée and had a completely different and negative experience. Apparently, the coupons had a fine print that stated that we were responsible for taxes and gratuity. This was expected and we were more than willing to pay for it, but the coupons did not expressly state the amount of gratuity that this establishment would charge.
So a meal for two, that amounted to $35, minus the $20 in coupons, once they added taxes and the "surprise" amount of 18% of "gratuity" would have still costed us another $23 when it was all said and done. I didn't really see where it was a cost effective meal for two, as the "gratuity" basically ate up the savings from the coupon and then some. It's just two of us, so why are we being charged the amount of gratuity that would make sense to charge for a large group of people?!
When we questioned as to why this wasn't the experience we had the previous time using the same coupons, the response was that the previous employee didn't process the payment properly and this is how they have ALWAYS done it, blah, blah, blah.
Rather than argue about it, we opted to leave the tasty but overpriced food there and when down the street to a Carniceria on Southern had some excellent tacos instead.
Sigh... here is another restaurant in our ever growing list of ones that we think could possibly be our go-to place for a date night, but their "greed" and lack of customer service disappointingly gets...
Read moreI’d call this a hidden gem but it’s not hidden, it’s on google after all. But, it is a gem. Simple counter order and seat yourself place. It’s slightly pricier than I want to spend for lunch, but I’m cheap. Once I saw how much food they give, I instantly was okay with the price. Now let’s talk turkey, or Gyro. The gyros are STUFFED with meat and the perfect amount of veggies and sauce. The meat was seasoned well, the pita bread was soft and nothing in the sandwich overpowered anything else. The real star of the show though, were the fries. So good! They may have been twice fried. They were crunchy, maybe even battered. Fried perfectly with great texture, crunchy outside and soft inside. They don’t need any condiments, but I used ketchup at the end because, let’s be real, I’m a child. Everything I didn’t try looked just as good as what I had. I would definitely go here again and...
